MAC Attendance, an Embarrassment

If this is in the wrong forum, you can move it.
I wanted to post this little tid-bit for you guys about how bad the MAC is when it comes to attendance, especially the MAC East.
Last week Akron opened up a brand new $61 million stadium that is just gorgeous. The place seats 30,000 fans. They sold out in week 1 to FCS Morgan State. Here is a picture:
Well the Zips hosted Big Ten Indiana yesterday and here was their attendance:
18,340.
How can a town with 200,000+ people not sell-out against a Big Ten team on National TV?!
-----
Kent State, notorious for having a despicable football program hosted Big Twelve Iowa State at home yesterday; and the attendance was: 15,808. Their stadium, the Dix as I like to call it, seats 25,000.
-----
Last week Youngstown State hosted that power

that everyone wants to see, Austin Peay. Our attendance was 16,389.
How embarrassing is it that Akron only gets 18,000 for a Big Ten team, Kent only gets 15,800 for a Big Twelve team, and YSU somehow gets 16,400 for an OVC team?
How sad is that? Had Indiana or Iowa State played in Youngstown, I can assure you Youngstown State would have sold out with relative ease.

That really is a nice stadium. I wonder if YSU would struggle if they moved to the MAC? YSU does have a nice football history to maintain fans.

wow... a brand new on-campus stadium and they can't sell it out...
the old rubber bowl was like 5 miles off campus - you would think excitement on campus would be higher - but i get the feeling that Ohio MAC teams suffer from the "hey didja hear about the Buckeyes?" problem that UNI faces among others...

Yup. On facebook yesterday I saw at least 5 of my Texas State friends status updates were "Hook'em Horns".
I went to a friends to eat dinner and watch football and I was trying to get TCU vs Texas St updates and the y kept asking why I would support them and that I must be the only fan.
It sucks living in UTs shadow thats 30 minutes up the road.

It sucks fighting for fans with Iowa.
I hate the fact that at every UNI home game when when they announce scores from around the country and the say that Iowa is winning, that is some of the loudest cheering in the dome. It pisses me the fuck off. It also pisses me off that when they announce ISU is losing everyone cheers and when they announce ISU as winning people boo. I wish we had a fan base with a fucking spine

You guys are talking about Iowa. Try living in the State of Ohio. We got the Ohio State Buckeye fans that think they are the invincible until they lose to a top 5 team each year lol...
The worst part: Jim Tressel is the coach of OSU. Before coaching at YSU, he was literally the most loved man in ALL of Youngstown, sending us to 6 national title games and winning 4 of them.
It is so bad that YSU schedules AROUND the OSU schedule. For instance last week YSU scheduled at 4pm, while OSU was at 8pm.
O well.. Least we aren't in the MAC.

The cheers for Iowa aren't THAT loud. They just stand out because the Dome crowd gets really quiet far too often, especially later in games.
I do hope Iowa has a successful season, but only because we played them this year (and should have won), and thus them having a good year reflects better on us than if they have a bad year.
Even though when they have a bad year, some of the dual fans do pay a bit more attention to us.

Bottom line fuck Iowa, and 99% of their fans.

Oh you and your jokes.
On a serious note, Iowa has passed OSU, ND, and Mich St on my all time hated list...I'm a Michigan fan and my hate for those three I didn't think could ever be topped

I was at the Weber State game Saturday night, and the announcer came on and told the BYU score when they got beat by Florida State and the whole Stadium cheered. It was great.

Texas St is down the road from UT. People don't go to games if UT is on TV.

UT-Chattanooga deals with the "little brother" syndrome, too. 99.9% of people in the eastern half of Tennessee bleed orange, no matter where they went to school. UTC has a hard time competing. Even at Moc games, you see as much orange as any other color.

Why else do you think UT colors are prison orange?

I always heard it was that color so they could go hunting after the game.

I wonder if the depressed economies in those areas have anything to do with it?

YSU is 40 minutes from Kent and 50 minutes from Akron, and 9 of the last 10 years we averaged more than them. Most people in Ohio would say Youngstown is the hardest hit city, but it really is Cleveland.
