I'd agree on all but two - GSU will win by 3 and GW will win by 6.

-Elon 31 @ Presbyterian 17: The Blue Hose have come a long way but still cant stand up to Socon competition...not just yet anyways.
-McNeese State 13 @ Appalachian State 42: The Pokes had a very bad showing against a D2 team where App State almost upset ECU. And with AE back things will only get harder.
-Furman 28 @ Chattanooga 14: The Paladins get a respectable win against a fellow Socon opponent.
-Gardner-Webb 35 @ Western Carolina 24: The Runnin Bulldogs beat the Catamounts after a back and forth game, WCU's offense performs better but not well enough.
-Jacksonville-U 14 @ Samford 45: The Bulldogs beat up on a Pioneer conference team, venting their anger on the Dolphins after a near upset of UCF.
-Georgia Southern 21 @ South Dakota State: 35 The Jackrabbits will prevail in part to a young GSU team and home field advantage.
-Charleston Southern 17 @ Wofford: 42 The Terriers will pull away after a tough first half of football and run all over the Bucs.

Question. Do you guys think App is that good or has McNeese gotten that bad? I would have thought it would have been closer than the predictions I see here and other places.

Both. I think on the right day APP has the potential to beat some teams very badly this year. from the last couple of years including the first game this year it appears to me that McNeese isn't as good as most people think (or used to think) and that the Southland is down generally. Add that to the first game at home for a season with high expectations, I think ASU wins this one handily.

Bob - I think it's a combination of a lot of factors. AE/Cadet, promising 2nd half defense vs ECU, how strong ASU is on paper, how poorly McNeese played last week...
None of that means much, but it's my uneducated guess.

Fair enough. I don't even know who McNeese played last week so that plays into why I thought it would have been closer. I know about App on paper and against ECU.

24-22 win over Henderston state ( DII I think). They may be a great DII team. I don't have a clue.

Does anybody see a possible "trap game" here for ASU?
Don't get me wrong, I'd predict them to win...but I'm betting last week was a wake-up call fro the McNeese players....they almost lost that game...
Just a thought from left field....

There are two things working against this being a trap game - Edwards returning should have everyone fired up and next week is our bye week, i.e. nothing to look ahead to (other than no ballgame)

there may be a trap game somewhere for ASU but I agree I don't see this one being it. Also, the McNeese/Montana/ASU scheduling has had a pretty big build up which should play into no let downs.

GSU will not lose by more than 8 to SDSU. Hatcher is 6-1 in FCS road games and always gets the team ready for the big games. Plus, SDSU is playing for the first time and will be breaking in a new QB.
I'm going to call Wagner surprising some against GWU with a win this week, too. Vanderbilt is probably going to go to another bowl game in the SEC and I don't think Wagner actually opened the playbook against them.
MSU-ASU will be closer than many think, also. McNeese didn't have a great team in 2005 but they still managed to beat GSU in Statesboro.

Makes sense.....but I feel last week was a wake up call for AppSt as well.....had they played with a little more fire in the 1st half, they should have beaten ECU, possibly handily, as ECU players were sucking wind in the 4Q....App needed to punch them in the nose early and they may have folded....playing with a little more focus in the 1st half could have led to the start of a special season....and I imagine Coach Moore might be reminding them this week in practice....& McNeese struggling against a DII doesn't bode well for them meeting a pissed off AppSt team in the home opener with the return of the National POY.....

My apologies to McNeese and the Southland.
Hey but I got WCU and GSU right, at least who would win.

Yeah, I was wrong on ASU-McNeese. I expected App to be able to play a little defense, but they decided to stay in the locker room. I'm not sure if they were looking past the Pokes or what, but it was embarrassing.

Disregard earlier response....good call Col....
