Presley will start at quarterback for Mountaineers against Pirates
Sophomore DeAndre Presley will start at quarterback for Appalachian State on Saturday against East Carolina in Greenville, and it's unlikely that the Mountaineers' All-American quarterback, Armanti Edwards, will play in the season-opening game.
Edwards, the Football Championship Subdivision's national player of the year last season, is recovering from a lawn-mowing accident that left him with 35 stitches in his right foot four weeks ago. He returned to practice Monday but has had limited work. He did not practice Wednesday.
"He's really doubtful," Appalachian State coach Jerry Moore said. "His foot is getting better, but we're like anyone else. We're not going to put a guy out there if he's two-thirds ready to play. I doubt seriously that he'll play."
