2 Northern Iowa running backs suspended

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- The Northern Iowa Panthers will not be at full strength when they take on Iowa this Saturday.

The Panthers will be minus two of their top running backs. Coach Mark Farley has suspended Derrick Law for one game and has suspended Taylor Bookins indefinitely - both for breaking team rules.

Cedar Falls Police say Law was arrested for public intoxication and criminal trespass on Saturday. Brookins was arrested for possession of marijuana in Bremer County, also on Saturday.

Does UNI have a decent chance to beat Iowa? If not, I wouldn't consider this such a bad thing...gives these two a break and let's the other RB's get some body bag time.

Was that Julia Roberts movie really filmed at UNI? Forgot the name but it is the same move as the Jennifer Lopez "Enough" movie, just the original version.

Movie wasn't filmed in Cedar Falls but the book it is based on has the Julia Roberts character moving to CF after she leaves her husband. The author is a UNI grad and was an instructor at UNI at one time.

Probably little chance to beat Iowa. Losing the starting RB probably makes it harder to keep it respectable.

It's called Sleeping with the Enemy (1991)
The story is set in Cedar Falls, but the movie was filmed somewhere in the Carolinas.

Based on a novel (of the same name) by Nancy Price who lived in Cedar Falls and at one time was a professor at the University of Northern Iowa.

Disappointing for sure, especially since this type of thing seems to have become an unfortunate trend the past year-and-a-half (at least).

But personally, I'm less appalled by this sort of misbehavior than I am when players are busted for violent acts (assault and the like). Of course, the messed up thing is that it seems like kids are more harshly punished for smoking a little weed or drinking than they are for smacking someone around. which is bass ackwards if you ask me.

ahhh....cool, crisp mornings....brilliant blue sky....you know football season is near when UNI starts suspending players...

Thats a shame, players from any team and any league that to play football for your school is a privilege not a right, hopefully they will get their act together in the future.
