goasu.com wrote:Appalachian football's annual Fan Fest is set for Saturday, August 22 beginning at 4 p.m. at ASU's Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Mountaineer players and coaches will be available for autographs and photos on the KBS turf from 4-5:30 p.m., as well as inflatable rides and face painting by ASU cheerleaders for the kids. Fans will also get their first glimpse at the new Yosef mascot that will patrol the sidelines for the Mountaineers in 2009.

At 6 p.m., the Apps will hold their final scrimmage before the Sept. 5 season opener at East Carolina. The ASU Marching Band, North Carolina’s Band of Distinction, will perform their gameday hits during the intrasquad scrimmage.

Admission to the event is FREE.
Anyone else going? Since we're only 45 minutes away, me and Mountain Man don't have an excuse not to, and it's a neat little event besides. If you've never been, be forewarned — LEAVE YOUR WALLET AT HOME. You will see all kinds of cool shit that you absolutely must...have. Game jerseys and player warmups from the previous season, sweet licensed merch out the ying yang, etc. If you're like me, and by "like me" I really mean "an idiot," and you would gladly overpay for authentic game uni, get there early. Even at $100 a pop, skill position jerseys move pretty fast. My dream of owning a CoCo Hillary jersey (my niece and nephew call me Uncle CoCo) will no doubt be dashed again this year.

Also, you will have the opportunity to watch the scrimmage, identify an aspect of the offense, defense and/or special teams that looks like a potential season killer, and fret over it until September 5. Yay!

I would if I could — for reals! — but I don't even want to know what time I'd have to get there to get a number 14 in white. Like, tonight, maybe?

Isn't one of our guys still in school, like Mountaineer? Think he's got a couple hundred dollars he'd spend for a couple of strangers who swear they're good for it?

Yeah, that's the ticket  We'll get the broke college kid to hook some brothers up. :thumb:

Nah, I've been done graduated years ago. ;) Still in Boone though and was planning on taking in Fan Fest. I'm not sure if they're selling anything this year or not. I know the previous couple of years they made an announcement saying old jerseys and the like would be available for purchase.

All in all, I was fairly impressed with what I saw today. Last year's scrimmage foretold some serious problems with App's special teams and defense. The defense looked much better this year, especially early in the series. The front four put a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks, and coverage was generally solid, except for some blown assignments that went for scores.

Armanti was on crutches, not sure if it was simply a precautionary thing or if he still needs them. DeAndre Presley was the only QB in a red jersey, and he didn't look bad by any means, but Travaris Cadet will definitely press him for the backup job. He made some questionable decisions on zone and option plays, but he impressed with his running ability and athleticism. The homer hyperbole machine will tell you he's the second coming of Armanti based on one scrimmage, and he's not, but I will say that watching him make a fantastic play one minute and then doing something dumb the next reminded me a bit of the heart attack that was Armanti Edwards circa 2006, lest we forget.

It's still too early to know anything, but the kids looked good out there. And they were really getting after it, too, more than I saw in past scrimmages. The fire and intensity was there, and there were some huge hits, including one official shit-knocking.

Oh, and ASUG8? I got your jersey. And I'm keeping it. 'Cause I make this look good.

The boys really got after each other today. Ol' Jerry even got knocked around a little bit.

The fire is burning in the Mountaineer locker room. Hopefully the injury bug will stay away this year.
