http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticl ... =204777347University of North Dakota Director of Athletics Brian Faison and head football coach Chris Mussman announced today that UND and the University of Montana have signed a contract to play each other in a home-and-home football agreement.
The Fighting Sioux will travel to Missoula, Mont., to face the Grizzlies on Nov. 13, 2010. Montana will make the return trip to the Alerus Center in Grand Forks on Sept. 14, 2013.
Montana, a Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program, is the preseason favorite to win the Big Sky Conference in league's annual media and coaches polls. The Grizzlies went 14-2 last season to win the conference championship and advanced to the DI FCS national championship game.
"Everyone knows Montana is one of best programs in the FCS," Mussman said. "Year in and year out, it does a great job in the Big Sky Conference and is one of the top teams in the country.
"It's a great matchup for us. Find out where we are programmatically, what we have to build, and then get an opportunity to get them here in Grand Forks and the Alerus Center, which, I think, is a big deal for the Alerus Center and the community."
The Grizzlies have won or shared the past 11 conference championships and can tie the national record for consecutive league titles with another league championship this season. Montana won national championships in 1995 and 2001.
UND's home-and-home series with Montana enhances an already-formidable non-conference schedule in future years for the Sioux, who will open the 2009 season on Sept. 5, at Texas Tech.
Other future non-conference opponents for UND include: Idaho (2010 and 2011, away), Fresno State (2011, away), Central Arkansas (2012, home) and San Diego State (2012, away).
I don't hate the Grizz for buying out of the Jacks game but you gotta agree with the history there the 2013 tilt isn't likely to happen.grizzaholic wrote:And none of you haters post that the Griz will buy out the back end of this.
Sure. It happened in a short period of time during a money crunch so that's what it's all about. If you're even slightly confident in that then I'll be happy to put up a $100 and you don't even have to give me 5:1 odds on it. I'll take 3:1 which is a bargain for you given the less than 20% chance it happens.EQguy wrote:I don't hate the Grizz for buying out of the Jacks game but you gotta agree with the history there the 2013 tilt isn't likely to happen.grizzaholic wrote:And none of you haters post that the Griz will buy out the back end of this.
If I were playing oddsmakers I'd say less than 20% chance the game happens.
If he's that confident he'll take both.grizzaholic wrote:No, by all means, take my place. Didn't know I was stepping on anyone's toes. I was just going to do a sweatshirt or coat or something along those lines. Didn't want to get into a money thing.Ursus A. If you hadn't graduated by then you'd probably be playing that day anyway.Willie wrote:Sure...it has to happen AFTER I fucking graduate. BOO. I live 50 miles from GF, I'd make that trip in a heartbeat.
Don't bet on it.grizzaholic wrote:And none of you haters post that the Griz will buy out the back end of this.
Yeah it doesn't have that football feel as much when you're inside but what the hell.polsongrizz wrote:Here's the only thing I hate about playing either ND team, both play indoors. Reminds me of ISU and ID.
After all, they are Nodaks....Wedgebuster wrote:You mean UND actually agreed to play at Montana first?

I've never been to a game at Holt or Kibbie, but methinks the atmosphere might be a tad bit different in the Alerus Center or the Fargodome.........Ursus A. Why, do you have a retractable roof? If not it is exactly the same, an indoor football game.bincitysioux wrote:I've never been to a game at Holt or Kibbie, but methinks the atmosphere might be a tad bit different in the Alerus Center or the Fargodome.........Ursus A. Holt you're probably right but not with the games I've been to at the Kibbie Dome. I'm not talking about today's Idaho I'm talking about when they were a juggernaut making playoff runs and so forth.bincitysioux wrote:I've never been to a game at Holt or Kibbie, but methinks the atmosphere might be a tad bit different in the Alerus Center or the Fargodome.........Ursus A.
