FBS wins for FCS teams...

I know it's always a stretch each year to believe that one of our FCS, also known as Divison II to those that are fans of BCS teams, could knock off an FBS team but it happens each year.
This year, some CAA teams that play ACC teams are JMU at Maryland, Richmond at Duke, and William & Mary at UVA. I think victories in these games are all plausible because of the mediocrity with those ACC teams but what do you think?
Any other schools out there playing I-A teams that are beatable?

App has a chance with ECU....as good of a chance as they had against Michigan and more realistic than last year's opener at LSU (assuming Armanti comes back by opener)

what up appaholic, long time no see...
ecu was way good last yr and even if they are good this year i do remember the michigan game! lol
hopefully armanti will be 100% for that one.
there are i htink 4-5 games htis year that look winnable for fcs teams. hopefully we'll see some W's.
i think even southern utah could pull one over utah state even if suu has an average year.
ill make a list of my top 5 fcs most winnable games in my next post.

Wisconsin is going to be bad this year.
Wofford by 10 in Madison, and I may be at the game to boot

Good to see you here 81! Always more room for JMU fans.

This is the best chance of an upset.
I don't see any of the CAA/ACC matchups going in our favor, Duke is on the upswing while it remains to be seen how Richmond replaces their RB and DEs. UVA is weak, but then again so is W&M. I don't need to repeat for you why JMU won't win at Maryland, that's been beaten to death on our boards. App has a good chance against ECU
if Armanti's healthy, and I could see UNH beating Ball State, depending on how many starters Ball St lost (quite a few, if I remember correctly). UNI/Iowa is possible, as is Weber State/Wyoming. I also like Cal Poly against Ohio U.

Yup, haven't gotten into that thread over there but I assume some of the argument has to go with it being a test run for Dudzik and Thorpe as well as recent/past performances vs FBS teams under Micky's tenure. Pros are UMDs loss of defensive and inconsistent performances.
Nova v Temple sounds like a solid pick in my book.

thanks for the welcome DukeJack. your list of possible upsets seems fair.
I foresee

the possibility of more FCS over FBS wins this year than ever before. FCS will still always be the underdog but some good quality FCS teams are playing FBS teams with big holes.
I know JMU over MD isn't a sexy pick but I'm calling it now... Maryland must play Cal on the west coast the week before and play a big rematch game against MTSU the following week. JMU is a trap game and if all goes well after the first half of play... no pulling the playbook and starters like Coach Matthews usually does.
JMU 24- MD 20

Delaware has had a good history of success against Navy. I think this year another victory for the Hens in Annapolis is certainly plausible. Keep in mind that this is year two since Paul Johnson left Navy as head coach and I wouldn't be surprised to see them start to regress back to their old losing ways.

Just to add a bit of spice, how many FCS teams are playing the teams in that top 25 poll?
Sorry to say I don't know (aside from us) but am interested. Is it on the other thread?

Here are some first week matchups... I had put them in the thread in that other forum about that other football conferences preseason poll you exclaimed you didn't care about.
Chuck South opens against #1 UF
Jacksonville St opens against #15 GT
The Citadel opens against #20 UNC
UNI opens against #21 Iowa
Portland State opens against #25 Oregon State

I don't care about the FBS, per se, but since you guys are giving plaudits to FCS teams that may be able to beat FBS teams why not go with it and see who will probably get creamed by the top teams as decided by a group of coaches who don't actually see the other teams play? It's a paradox, isn't it?
I still don't care for or follow the FBS but as this is about FCS teams playing those other guys I suppose I can acquiesce, for a bit

Yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. Big questions for us at QB, LBs, and secondary, Mickey's aversion to IA games, and a new factor - the schedule. With 11 games in a row, some of us think Mickey will yank the starters even earlier than normal to give them a bit more rest. Even though this is the worst Maryland team in years, with the roster differences I'm guessing 24-14 Maryland.

Maryland has played FCS teams very conservatively the last few years, and with out Mickey's aversion, I actually think you guys could win it, given the perfect storm for Maryland.
