CAA dominates FCS preseason All-America Teams

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Coming off a season in which one of its members claimed the NCAA Division I football championship, the Colonial Athletic Association dominated the preseason Sports Network FCS All-America team with 20 players selected to the three teams.

Three players from the 2008 national champion Richmond Spiders were among that group, including first-team guard Matthew McCracken, first-team cornerback Justin Rogers, and second-team linebacker Eric McBride.

That's a pretty good team, IMO. I'm sure there are some missing folks, but without naming 85 teams its impossible to get everyone.

Anybody see any glaring mistakes?

None really from NAU - there are several that could be in the mix, but were injured last year, and will need to prove themselves

Maybe Dane Fletcher from MSU? He's on the Buchanon list but not an AA? I don't know anything about him, so I can't say whether its a glaring mistake or not.

Big Sky guys, what do you think? Should Fletcher have been on the AA team?

I would have liked to see Josh Jennings; UMASS, Sr. make this list. I think he is going to surprise this season. Another sleeper this season in the CAA will be Phil Higgins; NU, Sr. it’s tough to accumulate the amount of tackles he did in the CAA running a 3-4 defense with an undersized defensive line.

The CAA can make picking a LB real tough

Osayi Osunde, Villanova, Sr
Collin McConaghy, Richmond, Sr
Josh Jennings, UMASS, Sr.
Phil Higgins, Northeastern, Sr
Luke Bonus, Hofstra, Sr.
Mark Masterson, Maine, Sr.
Eric McBride, Richmond, Jr
Patrick Weldon, Richmond, Jr.
Marquis Kirkland, Villanova, Jr.
Matt Hansen, Rhode Island, Jr.

To me Fletcher should definitely have been on, but he missed the last three games last year with a torn ACL which probably kept him off the list. He's fully recovered from surgery and ready to go. Barring injury he'll be on the list later.

Third Team Offense

-Tysson Poots Southern Utah WR Jr 6-3 205

Second Team Special Teams

-Trevor Ward Southern Utah P Sr 6-4 215

Nice to see these guys finally get some recognition. Poots will be a huge weapon this year
(83 REC. for 1236 YDS and 14 TDS in 08) along with what is looking to be a powerful underestimated offense in 09. As for Ward, this guy is just as good as Louie Sakoda was for Utah in my opinion, cant wait for the 09 season!!

I agree (of course) on Jennings...he is on a mission this year to improve the UMass defense that did not live up to its expectations last year as a unit...Josh tried to carry them and almost did it singlehandedly...as a senior, he's really going to be a leader and I expect great things from him this year...

Yes, I see a glaring east coast bias, yet again. I also note this same thing was posted on that "other site" and I will still stand by the oversight of Karrington Bush.

Maybe you can't place him in RB as he was not the only RB TxSt utilized last year, thus depleting those numbers. You can't put him in receivers because that is not his specialty, just a stop gap if needed. Then no room in special teams as a KR (1055 yds), again because it's not his main focus. But to have a guy that had 2 back to back 1000 yd rushing seasons in a 3 back scheme, and 2330 all purpose yards, overlooked because he is multi-faceted is just beyond me.

As he will be our featured back this year I just can't wait to see how he compares to the almighty Pendland. We'll still be a 60/40 team which, I believe, McNeese is not. Doing what he did (2008), with Luke in our lineup, was outstanding.

PS - Pendland is a Senior this year
