The NCAA has turned down Jacksonville State University's final appeal of its football postseason ban due to failings in the Academic Progress Rate evaluations.
The decision was announced on the NCAA Web site. http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?key=/ncaa/ ... ille+state

The football team was banned for the 2009 season because JSU is subject to what is called historical penalties for the third straight year due to its APR score. Those penalites are defined as scoring below 900 APR over a four-year period and "failing to show significant, sustained improvement or meet other factors," the NCAA said in its release.

The NCAA release said the school "first appealed the penalty to the Division I Committee on Academic Performance, which denied the request and notified the university on May 12.

"The university then appealed to the Division I Board of Directors' APP Historical Penalties Appeals Subcommittee, which denied the appeal and notified the university on June 10."
There goes the OVC's best chance to a playoff game this decade.

I didn't read the article and I'm sorry but I don't have time and don't know if this issue is addressed anyway but is part of their problem transfers or is it primarily academic progress of the student athletes?

That sucks for the Ohio Valley. None of the other teams look to be even remotely playoff worthy.

Thats not true. Eastern Kentucky who won the Conference Championship in 08 could make some noise in the playoffs as they have been the team from the OVC to make it to them the past few years. SO i wouldnt count the OVC out since EKU as repeatedly cleared the field in that conference.

Eastern Kentucky only "cleared the field" the last two years. They had a 10 year playoff drought before that.

EKU lost a lot of starters from last year, as did TSU and UTM. JSU is the only good Ohio Valley team from '08 that returns a significant portion of their key players. Granted, the Colonels did manage to win the league last season after losing a lot of starters, but I doubt they can overcome that difficulty two years in a row.
