Southern Pigskin is a pretty good site for southern football, and gives the SoCon a good amount of coverage. Here's the site's top 20 players for the upcoming season...

1. QB Armanti Edwards, Appalachian State, Sr.
2. WR/RS Andre’ Roberts, The Citadel, Sr.
3. WR Terrell Hudgins, Elon, Sr.
4. FS Mark LeGree, Appalachian State, Jr.
5. RB Chris Evans, Samford, Jr.

This list has had the GSU faithful in a twist all day today. Not one player from GSU is listed. The crowd that sees everything with a GSU Blue tint just can't beleive some has the stones to omit GSU from this list.

It's kinda sad to read. Replies like, "..in 1985 we...." and "..we have 6 titles.."

Roberts is pretty universally accepted as the best receiver in the SoCon, right there with Hudgins of Elon. He didn't have a stand out day against ASU last season, which is the only time I saw him. I'll take other peoples word for it, though. I'll be interested to see the list at the end of the season.

I must say I agree with you. Let me ask this to those others who are complaining. Who from GSU do they feel has to be on the list at this point? There is not a single GSU player that will likely be on the coaches preseason all socon team nor one on the SP.com list. I do think GSU will win 7-8 games this season and have one on the postseason list but there is not a single player that seems worthy on paper at this point. If you don't have a player on the 1st team all conference you likely don't have a top 20 player.

They can't list a good name. Our 1QB is a Soph that started all of one game last year. THe best player from last year is a grad assistant this year. We have some great athletes. When their time is all said and done at Georgia Southern some will make these lists. Right now we wait and let them build their resumes.

That is what I was thinking. I see about 4 or 5 on that defense that could make that list easily before they graduate.

It's ok... UT Chattanooga doesn't have anyone listed either.

You need to read between the lines with a kid like Roberts.

Getting an education, preparing for the NFL, being a leader, wearing the gray, earning the ring, banging your mother, mentoring the younger kids, returning kicks for six, making people miss, angling for the Payton, etc etc etc.

For those of you around the country who haven't seen Roberts play let me be the first opponent's fan to say he is the real deal. His skills translate the best to the next level of all those on the list as well.

As for the GSU fans they need to step back and realize that the team is LOADED with talent but very very young and unproven. I can't think of any GSU players I would put on the list at this point but I bet there will more than one by the end of the year. Come 2010 and 2011 there will be plenty of GSU players on this list.
