Decent ranking.

A few quips I have:
Umass shouldn't be ranked above Maine;
Holy Cross is about 5 spots too high; and
Harvard shouldn't be ranked at all.

South Carolina State at 12?
Harvard?
UMass at 15?
Grambling?

I'm not going to argue with the top spot , but most of these preseason football magazine polls are done by name recognition (as are most BCS preseason polls) and how the team finished last year.

SCSU made the playoffs, and gave App a good game - put 'em at #12! Grambling? They play that game on NBC every season. And Harvard? Gotta have an Ivy in there, so why not?

SC State is really good and isn't out of this world at 12.

There is one further glaring mistake: South Dakota State should be ranked in the high teens, low 20's.

SCSU maybe a good team, but until they win a game in the playoffs, or win a big regular season game, they are suspect. Top 20 - OK. Top 12, NOPE

I was being sarcastic as to how these magazines determine their rankings. Very few actually put any thought in it, sometimes it seems that they just throw shit it - as in "we've gotta put an Ivy" or "we've gotta have at least 3 from the Big 10"

OK, good. Sorry to jump down your throat....the thing is there are many many people who vote in these polls (regular season polls too) who really abide by that philosophy. They always put an Ivy and a PL team in there no matter what.

No worries - that's exactly what I was making fun of. Besides, we all know that preseason polls are crap (I guess they aren't Scottish).
