The process for Savannah State University to be admitted to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is moving forward following a three-year delay.

I spoke with MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas today and he confirmed that he and other MEAC representatives will be at SSU on June 29-30 for an official site visit -- one of the final steps before joining a conference.

No, it is not good. The MEAC should stay FAR AWAY from Savannah State. Savannah State has proven in recent years that they are regressing, not progressing. The MEAC should be moving forward, not backward. We should be making a run at schools which have proven that thy are academically, financially, and athletically feasible. SSU has proven that it is recklessly incompetent in all of those areas.

What schools would do you think the MEAC should pursue?

Just so long as they don't count on playing Del. St.

If the MEAC is interested in expanding, they need to search for schools and pitch to schools which meet the criteria which I mrntioned above. Personally, I think the MEAC should stand pat. I dnot see any need for expansion.

The MEAC has already taken WSSU and I think NCCU (might be wrong on that, I'm not sure)...if it is WSSU, NCCU and SSU, how many members would that give the MEAC?

I think if you dug a little deeper you would find that the old Admin and Athletic Department heads that caused all the problems have been culled. It;s a new SSU now and they have potential. They may still be on a long road, but they have an upside.
