The plans have been revised and $10 million has been added to the original price tag of $52 million bringing the total to $62. JMU has pulled in 3.6 million of the $10 million that would be generated through private donations with the hopes of collecting the rest by the end of the year. JMU is also spotting $11 million plus a 2% increase in student fees, and the rest of the money is coming from the state I believe.
http://www.dailynews-record.com/sports_ ... 088&CHID=3King pointed to three revisions from the original plans that added most of the new cost:
n First, in a bow to aesthetics, JMU wants to cover some of the steel substructure of the football stadium's expanded 12-story-high stands to keep it from being visible to motorists on Interstate 81.
n Second, it wants to move its new press box to the top of the stadium, chiefly to provide a better view of the field while avoiding obstructing sightlines from other seats. The original plans called for it to be located lower down, between tiers of seating.
n Third, King said the stadium has "a flood plain issue" the school thought it resolved when it built the existing parking deck. King said additional work must be done to assure the stadium isn't in a flood plain.
