New North Dakota Mascot?

Looking into the issue of North Dakota's mascot it seems like that probably the name wont be able to be kept as it seems the leaders of both the tribes they have to win over are refusing to have their name used by the university. It could very well change but just out of curiosity what would you all think would be good replacement mascot for North Dakota? These are my picks:

-T-Wolves
-Wolverines
-Vikings
-Nukes (Figured with all the silos there :D )

It'll be a sad day for UND if they have to change. There won't be hockey in Ralph Engelstad Arena anymore. He told them when he was building if, that if the name and logo changed, they weren't allowed to use the arena for the university anymore.

One of the tribes voted to allow the university to keep the "Sioux" name.

Hopefully the other tribe in question will vote and resolve this issue soon.

serves 'em right for getting bed with that racist nazi sympathizer. (not hyperbole... he ACTUALLY was one... was even censured by Vegas casino owners for having a birthday party for Hitler)

let 'em go back to their original name... Flickertails

I think it would be a great idea if the are forced out of it to go with no mascot/nick name whatsoever. Just be known simply as UND. If you had no new nickname then people would still call them by their old anyway. No name, no logo, no nothing. It would be the most unique thing in college sports.

^That is what Newberry has basically done after losing its athletic name.

Not quite as unique as I had thought then.

No nickname is the dumbest thing ever. Newberry is supposed to have a nickname by next year. McMurry D-III decided to not have one.

Flickertails sounds best. What is it, Prairie Dogsquirrel?

There was a high school team called the Nimrods
JUCO team called the Fighting Artichokes
We have teams called the beavers so why not twats

Although most are hopeful that UND will be able retain the name, there is a long thread over at SiouxSports.com regarding possible new nicknames. http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?showtopic=9644

The one that probably has the most support is Roughriders, because Teddy Roosevelt lived in ND. Since one of the HS's in GF is already using the name, I don't believe it is a good choice.

For those believe that UND won't be able to use the Ralph and Betty (REA)if the name is retired, that just isn't true. That would be punishing the very people that he intended to bless with his gift. The folks from REA have stated publicly that it is not true. I think if UND had chosen to change the name to just be PC, the folks at REA would be leveraging the use of the arena, but this came through the NCAA and a settlement that I'm sure had REA input.

My current favorites, if the Fighting Sioux moniker goes away are Ghostriders and Tyrants. Cavalry would be nice, but probably wouldn't pass the PC smell test

Those are all 'ok' nicknames, but this is their time to get the best name they can bc they're getting forced outta their old one. 'roughriders' ? thats soooo corny, plus DMX comes to mind.

florida GATORS
usc TROJANS
NW st DEVILS
san jose st SPARTANS

this is your chance, dont blow it.

The best name is Fighing Sioux. I also think there isn't a better logo in the country.

It will be sad day if the name/logo go away,

My college's nickname is made fun of quite regularly. Concordia Cobbers. Our mascot is a corn on the cob, but lemme tell ya, he's one fierce sum bitch. Too bad he drowned during the flood (the suit was in the basement of our basketball arena and was destroyed).

There is another one in the area that's pretty funny to me, Moorhead Spuds (yes potatoes).

McMurray's old nickname was the Blueboys...(also a gay porn magazine by that name :))

Scottsdale Community College is the Hot Pink and Lime Green Fighting Artichokes, selected by the Students during the anti-establishment era of the early 70's. Colors are now more red and green :)

Way to add some good reasoning why it's a dumb idea FSA by putting up a bunch of stupind nicknames that really add to the mystique and prestige of the schools. i do love your logic. You really nailed me there.

McMurry was the Indians
Northwestern St. is the Demons, not Devils
Illinois College is the Blue Boys
When I win the lottery and open my own school we will be Called the Twateaters. The Womens team Cockeaters

If the NCAA comes after me I'll tell them the Twat is a South American fruit and cockeaters is short for gamecockeaters.

If they don't let me keep the Twats one when they find out its not a fruit, I'll go with Molesters (It means to bother as one of the definitions)

Which logo? The one that is identical to Notre Dame's?

Why don't they drop the "Fighting" from the name, and call them Sioux? Its worked for other teams!

i think roughriders would be a great name... and it would bring a great canadian name over the border.

one question... you guys gonna work the pink there a little more??? it's like you guys pretend it's not one of your school colors...

I agree with you on the interlocking "ND" that both Notre Dame and North Dakota use. It is more readily identified as Notre Dame than North Dakota. I even suggested a new "UND" logo here.... http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?showtopic=11011.

The logo that I really feel is the best in the country is the one designed by a Native American for North Dakota.

Green and pink are the official UND colors. The pink reference is to North Dakota's state flower, the prairie rose. It was chosen to portray UND graduates rosy future. I don't believe that it has ever been used by athletics.

Edit: I found the following link that provides further information on the colors, just to make the Bison fans happy. :D http://www.und.edu/dept/our/factbook/html/colors.htm
COLORS -- In April 1889, the student body met and chose as school colors the pink and green of the prairie rose, "suggestive of our green prairies and rosy prospects." In the 1920s green and white were adopted as colors for UND athletic teams while pink and green continued to be used on the academic hoods of the University.
