DBackJon and NAU Fans,

What the heck happened to the Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year for 2008, Northern Arizona's Deonte Williams? :?:

As a freshman, Williams was the 5th leading rusher in the BSC, with 950 yards on 220 carries in 11 games, and the sixth leading scorer with 6.5 points per game (12 TDs). :!:

Deonte does not show up on the 2009 roster or spring football discussion boards, and rumor is that he transferred. :?

...To where? :?:

...Why?
:?:

This can't be good.

Looking at his rivals page and NAU stats, sounds like a good back. I guess he could have gone IA, like Lofa Tatupa did from Maine to USC, but the stats aren't blowaway enough for me to believe that.

Were there some sort of behavior problems? Adjustment problems? Academic problems?

It's hard to imagine he would walk away from a likely four-year starting position on an up and coming team without some sort of problem.

Some kind of "internal violation" and very quiet dismissal would be my guess, but dbackjon would be able tell you better than I could.

Deonte moved back home, and is enrolled at Sacramento City College. He came back for the spring, but transferred after the start of the semester.

Unable to find out whether it was academic, behavior, or just home sick
