Texas State to announce $1 million athletics gift

Jerry and Linda Fields of Houston have donated $1 million to the athletics department at Texas State University, school officials are announcing today.
The couple is among the university's most generous benefactors. The gift brings their total contributions to Texas State to about $3.8 million. Their previous gifts supported academic excellence, the alumni center and athletics.
The new gift will be used to boost Texas State's campaign to join the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A), the top level of NCAA football.
