A football game between the University of Massachusetts and Michigan that athletic director John McCutcheon alluded to in October could be close to becoming a reality.
McCutcheon told the fans who attended a reception with new coach Kevin Morris at the UMass Club in Boston on Thursday that a game in 2010 with the Wolverines looks promising.
"We don't have a signed contract yet," McCutcheon said after the event. "But it's looking pretty good."
The game would almost certainly be the biggest crowd ever to see a UMass game as Michigan Stadium seats over 100,000 fans. The Wolverines are coming off a 3-9 season.
When McCutcheon first alluded to the possibility of a meeting with Michigan, he told a weekly sports luncheon at UMass that the Minutemen were in negotiations to play a Bowl Championship Subdivision opponent for guarantee of "around $1 million."
