Now the stretch run truly begins as the conference has a full slate of games every week until the end. Half the conference took a break from conference action and all are set to battle to the end. The top team and the bottom team seems to be set, while the middle is still an unsettled pile of goo. Here are this week's power rankings (last week in parenthesis). All are my opinion only. A full slate this weekend. Here we go.

1. Montana State (1)---Last week, bye, this week at Cal Poly---The Bobcats were one of many teams to take last week off and get ready to lead the conference. They have the upstarts of the conference, the Mustangs, this weekend down in central California. They could end the dream of one team there.

2. Montana (2)---Last week beat Sacred Heart (FCS Independent) at home 43-21, this week at Sacramento State---The Grizzlies finally saw what getting off to a great start can do for a team. Things may have got a little interesting but they got the win. This week will be tough as they face the Hornets in their nest.

3. UC Davis (3)---Last week, bye, this week at Northern Colorado---The Aggies also took last week off. Their first part has been really good and answered some questions from the preseason. Now they are set to make a fine run and stay near the top of the conference. They have a strong road test this weekend, however.

4. Sacramento State (4)---Last week beat Northern Colorado at home 40-35, this week Montana at home---The Hornets survived some scares from the conference darling this year before finally emerging with a hard fought home win. They stay home this week with a much tougher foe in the Grizzlies. This will be good.

5. Northern Colorado (5)---Last week lost at Sacramento State 40-35, this week UC Davis at home---The Bears seem to relish scaring the bejesus out of the conference so far. They went toe to toe with the Hornets on the road last week. They get another top team in the conference this week and its at home.

6. Northern Arizona (6)---Last week, bye, this week at Idaho State---The Lumberjacks had last week off to analyze what happened the week before and try to correct some things that have come up. They head to a tough place to play this weekend at the Bengals, a tough opponent, to try to get the stretch run off to a good start.

7. Idaho State (8)---Last week, bye, this week Northern Arizona at home---The Bengals are trying to be relevant this season, and taking last week off to prepare was a good thing. They could scare some people and push their way through. They catch a reeling Lumberjacks team this weekend and hope to continue on.

8. Cal Poly (9)---Last week, bye, this week Montana State at home---The Mustangs have also shown a penchant for scaring the opponents to death. They are coming off a bye week themselves and welcome the top dog, the Bobcats, to their home turf. A loss won't mean much, but boy a win could mean a lot.

9. Eastern Washington (10)---Last week beat Idaho at home 21-14, this week at Weber State---In trying to right the ship and salvage their season, the Eagles came through and got a strong home win over their rivals. Don't look but they are right up there in the standings. They could continue there with another win.

10. Idaho (7)---Last week lost at Eastern Washington 21-14, this week Portland State at home---The Vandals seem to be going in the wrong direction. Stunning losses the last two weeks have their season teetering. They have to right themselves. They should get a breather this weekend, welcoming the bottom team to their home.

11. Weber State (11)---Last week won at Portland State 43-27, this week Eastern Washington at home---The Wildcats jumped out at the start last week and put the Vikings quickly in their place for a good road win, one that they needed. They have another shot at a win this weekend as they welcome the Eagles to town.

12. Portland State (12)---Last week lost to Weber State at home 43-27, this week at Idaho---The Vikings had a good shot at getting a win but their offense did not bother to show up. The the defense quit in the second half. Can they get a win somewhere? This weekend they play a struggling Vandals team on the road.

RECAP: 1, then 2-4 close, 5-6 not that far off, 7-11 off a bit, 12 falling
