Hard to believe we are halfway through the college football season and the teams have now entered the stretch run. Quite fitting that the top two teams in the Big Sky conference seem to both be from Big Sky Country. But still alot of football to be played and a few darkhorses are emerging themselves. Here are this week's power rankings (last week's rankings in parenthesis). All are my opinion only. Here we go.

1. Montana State (2)---Last week won at Northern Arizona 34-10, this week Idaho State at home---The Bobcats came back to their home den last weekend with an excellent road win against a very good team. They have found replacements and are ready to make some noise. They bring the Bengals for a tough home game now.

2. Montana (1)---Last week won at Idaho State 42-38, this week Cal Poly at home---The Grizzlies looked like they possibly may drop a tough conference road game, but came to life in the 4th quarter to secure a good road victory. The only undefeated team left in the conference brings in the conference darlings to town.

3. UC Davis (4)---Last week won at Cal Poly 34-27, this week Northern Arizona at home---There were some anxious moments last week in the Aggies road win over the Mustangs but in the end, they got it done and came home with a win. Another tough game on the horizon as they welcome the Lumberjacks to their home den,

4. Idaho (5)---Last week bye this week Northern Colorado at home---The Vandals took last week off to recover from their loss to Montana and to get relatively healthy for the stretch run. They welcome one of the conference upstarts this season in the Bears to their home dome for a tough home matchup.

5. Northern Arizona (3)---Last week lost to Montana State at home 34-10, this week at UC Davis---Great expectations were thwarted last week for the Lumberjacks as they could not hang with the Bobcats at home. Now the promising season this was supposed to be hangs in the balance as they hit the road for a contest at the Aggies.

6. Idaho State (6)---Last week lost to Montana at home 42-38, this week at Montana State---The Bengals had the Grizzlies dead to rights last weekend, then let it go in the final quarter. Had they played a complete game, they might have had the win. They will need to play a complete game this weekend in order to have any shot at a win.

7. Sacramento State (7)---Last week bye, this week at Weber State---Are the Hornets still smarting from their stunning home loss against the Mustangs in their conference opener? They've had a bye week to erase it from their memories. They hit the road this weekend for a game against the Wildcats. It will be shocking if they lose that one, too.

8. Cal Poly (9)---Last week lost to UC Davis at home 34-27, this week at Montana---The Mustangs may not be getting wins, but they are continually throwing some scares into the conference heavyweights. Last week they matched the Aggies pretty much blow by blow. It will be interesting this weekend if they can do that at Montana.

9. Northern Colorado (8)---Last week bye, this week at Idaho---The Bears also are preparing to make some noise in the conference down the stretch run. They had last week off to get healthy and get ready for it. It all starts for them playing one of the conference heavyweights in the Vandals at their home dome.

10. Weber State (10)---Last week bye, this week Sacramento State at home---The Wildcats are trying to right the ship and took a week off to rest, recover and refocus on the season. Will it help? They have a strong test awaiting them at home with the Hornets coming to town, fresh off a stinging defeat of their own.

11. Eastern Washington (11)---Last week beat Portland State at home 35-27, this week bye---The Eagles flexed their muscles in a home win over their Dam Cup rivals. They still seem mired close to the bottom of the conference standings. They will regroup this weekend as they take it off and return in two weeks.

12. Portland State (12)---Last week lost at Eastern Washington 35-27, this week bye---In what may have been their best chance to get a win this season, the Vikings ended up just short of their Dam Cup matchup with the Eagles. They will take their second bye week to try to refocus on at least getting a win somewhere.

RECAP: 1-2 out front, 3-5 nipping at their heels, 6-7 just behind them, 8-9 falling just a bit, 10-12 way back.

It hurts to see Sac that low and the Manure Pile that high...but you're probably correct as of right now, JAL....
