The oversight committee will recommend denial.

Interesting. I wonder why considering who they’ve recently let in.

While I'm all for Sac remaining in FCS, I'd be interested in seeing the rationale for this denial. While JMU, CCU, and Liberty have done wonders in FBS (I'd STILL rather see them in FCS, along with UCONN and UMASS), there are many recent call-ups like GA State and Jax State who have NOTHING on Sac, either in terms of football performance, overall athletic performance, or academic performance, much less media market size.

This smells fishy to me....

I'm guessing it's because they're trying to go up as an independent.

Having established the precedent of waivering Liberty, I just can't see how they can deny Sac. ECB?

Meanwhile...

Might Sac go the way of Merrimack as an FCS Independent?

From what I’ve read, they were denied because they didn’t have an FBS Conference Invite. I’m surprised Sac State didn’t negotiate a deal with the Mountain West Conference, based on their location they’d be a perfect fit.

I'm not sure how committed Sac and the MWC were to each other; Sac has had eyes only for the Pac-7....

Looks like you’re right.

“Sacramento State has informed the Big Sky Conference of its intention to leave starting June 30, 2026, the league announced Thursday. The Hornets are expected to announce a move to the Big West for every sport but football starting July 1, 2026. The move will leave the Hornets without a football conference home starting next year as the school waits for final word on its waiver application to reclassify as an FBS school next season.”

The Division I Council says NO. Sac's plans have been wasted, and may drop outright if the Indy route won't work for them next year. :ohno:

I'm thinking now that they may become the new generation equivalent of UMass in football... :suspicious:
