Week 5 - Conference by Conference Breakdown

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Big Sky

IDA 44-36 EWU
UCD 31-13 CP
NAU 30-31 SAC
IDST 20-28 UMT
PORTST 22-38 MTST
WEB 28-21 NOCO

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 18-18

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 12-7

Best Performance: (#4) Idaho 44, (#19) Eastern Washington 36 - Vandal RB Anthony Woods runs for 183 yards and 5 touchdowns & teammate Nick Romano adds another 129 rushing yards to more than compensate for a surprisingly quiet passing game.

Worst Performance: Cal Poly 13, (#21) UC Davis 31 - The weak Mustang offense allows Aggie LB Nick Eaton to put up 3 tackles-for-loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.

Most Surprising Result: Northern Arizona 30, (#8) Sacramento St. 31 - The Lumberjacks have looked surprisingly decent the last two weeks, but alas, they're still a 1-4 team with a really bad loss.

Southland

TAMUC 27-56 SFA
LAM 21-19 HCU
TARL 14-13 SELU
EIU 19-10 NWST
NICH 31-10 MCNSE

  • NConf Record: 0-3
    Overall: 6-24

    vs. FCS: 0-3
    Overall: 2-14

Best Performance: Nicholls St. 31, McNeese St. 10 - The Colonels force 4 turnovers—2 of them accounted for by DB Tyler Morton—as they pick up their first win of the season.

Worst Performance: Houston Christian 19, Lamar 21 - Jalyx Hunt's 10 tackles, 3 TFLs, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery weren't enough to prevent a bad home loss for the Huskies.

Most Surprising Result: Southeastern Louisiana 13, Tarleton St. 14 - The Lions start 0-5 for the first time since 1985, the last year before they dropped football (they brought the program back in 2003).

Missouri Valley

SDK 24-19 NDSU
UND 21-42 SDKST
YSU 41-44 UNI
MIZST 20-33 SIU
INST 28-30 MUR

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 20-16

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 18-6

Best Performance: South Dakota 24, (#2) North Dakota St. 19 - The Coyotes build a 21-3 lead and upset NDSU despite only being able to run 38 offensive plays.

Worst Performance: Indiana St. 28, Murray St. 30 - Plez Lawrence's 203 rushing yards and 3 TDs were apparently not enough to beat the conference newbie from the Ohio Valley.

Most Surprising Result: (#2) North Dakota St. 19, South Dakota 24 - The Bison had won the previous 6 meetings with SoDak by an average score of 45-17.

UAC

UTU 20-41 CSU
UCA 29-27 SUU
ACU 31-45 UNT
TAMUC 27-56 SFA
TARL 14-13 SELU
EKU 32-22 UNA
AP 52-10 LIND

  • NConf Record: 3-2
    Overall: 16-20

    vs. FCS: 3-0
    Overall: 14-10

Best Performance: (#25) Central Arkansas 29, Southern Utah 27 - ShunDerrick Powell only had 115 yards on the ground this time, but it was well earned against a tough SUU defense that is only allowing 77.8 rushing ypg and 2.6 yards-per-carry.

Worst Performance: Southern Utah 27, (#25) Central Arkansas 29 - The Thunderbird offense, on the other hand, has struggled this season—they're putting up just 304.6 total ypg and 4.9 yards-per-play.

Most Surprising Result: Utah Tech 20, (FBS) Colorado St. 41 - It's been difficult to figure out the Trailblazers: 3 ugly, ugly losses, but also a surprising road win (NAU) and making an FBS matchup a legitimate game into the fourth quarter.

Pioneer

swmn 15-16 VALPO
PRESBY 17-27 BUT
STTHOM 20-14 DAY
STET 24-34 MARIST
USD 33-55 DVDSN
DRAKE 16-9 MHEAD

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 12-18

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 1-14

Best Performance: Davidson 55, San Diego 33 - The Wildcats reprise their video-game-like ground attack from the late-2010s as they run for 449 yards and 7 touchdowns on just 41 carries.

Worst Performance: Morehead St. 9, Drake 16 - The Eagles lose their 8th. straight PFL game.

Most Surprising Result: San Diego 33, Davidson 55 - The Toreros have now lost to Davidson 3 times this decade after only losing to them a total of 2 times before that.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

I know. Lance ranted about the SLC on the podcast.

I’ll point out that UIW is ranked around 7 in nearly every poll. It’s likely UIW will run the table and may threaten a top 4 seed as they’ll be vying for a spot with some very good teams will finish 9-2.

The cards are 21 in Massey and their best win will be against ACU (currently at 45).

Their best win could end up being Nicholls. Nicholls went 0-3 out-of-conference against Sac and 2 FBS teams, and they host SEMO later.
