That's good news IMO.
Why?
We needed somebody and they are a good fit geographically (we love Jersey kids) and they should be decent enough to not hurt SOS but not good enough to pose a threat for a while. I'm not sure who else would be a better fit.

They’ve been pretty good over the last few years. They may well atart out in the middle of the pack.

Is the CAA even the third best conference anymore?
WAFJ this level has become.

With JMU they were kind of like the Southland with SHSU but both conferences have lost their top dogs (and SHSU ditched two conferences). I'm not sure who's 3rd anymore. Southern, CAA, WAC or Southland?

Sagarin Conference Rankings (FWIW)
1. Missouri Valley
2. Big Sky
3. Southland
4. SoCon
5. CAA
6. Ivy
7. AQ7 (won't exist anymore)
8. Big South
9. OVC
10. SWAC
11. Patriot
12. NEC
13. MEAC
14. Pioneer

So, where will the WAC and Atlantic Sun fall in? Or will they merge? Based on the 2021 standings, if 2022 goes according to Hoyle, I'm thinking 7. WAC, 12. ASUN, pushing NEC/MEAC, and Pioneer down a spot each. Does that sound right to you, Venus?

Averaging the 2021 numbers, the 2022 WAC would replace the AQ7 while the 2022 ASun would go between the Big Sky and Southland.

Now take JSU and SHSU out of those
How was the AQ7 7th with SHSU and JSU? How was the CAA 5th with JMU? The Missouri Valley and Big Sky are top 2 but I would have CAA 3rd and AQ7 4th in 2021.
For 2022:
- CAA drops from losing JMU
- AQ7/WAC drops from losing SHSU and JSU
- Big South drops when it loses Monmouth
- Who fills the void?

It actually doesn't make much of a difference:
ASun minus JSU: doesn't move (still between Big Sky & Southland)
WAC minus SHSU: doesn't move (still between Ivy & Big South, but now closer to Big South)

Took SHSU to the wire in the spring and I think have recent FBS win IIRC.

If Mercer and ETSU can sustain it may be a toss up between the Southern and CAA

The WAC is adding Incarnate Word (will they remain good with their coach & QB gone?) and the ASun is adding Kennesaw, so the Big South seems like the real loser here.

Have we settled on opening school lineups for the WAC and Atlantic Sun yet? It's looking very confusing. There were only three schools identifying at ASUN last year, and two of them weren't very good. About two-thirds of the WAC were either good or showed signs of developing into something decent in the next year or so. So unless there's some data I'm not seeing (like inbound decent schools), I can't see placing ASUN over WAC. (One confounding factor: a current member of the ASUN for most sports is currently an FBS independent experiencing great success in minor bowls. How will THAT affect things? With the advent of ASUN football, will they be forced out? Or will they be forced back to FCS?)
2021 ASUN
Eastern Kentucky 7-4 2-0
Central Arkansas 5-6 1-1
Jacksonville State 5-6 0-2
2021 WAC
4 Sam Houston State 11-1 5-0
18 Stephen F. Austin 8-4 4-1
Abilene Christian 5-6 3-2
Tarleton State 6-5 2-3
Dixie State 1-10 0-3
Lamar 2-9 0-5
