Overtime Rule Change

Post by SuperHornet »

The NCAA has instituted more bogus tweaks to their bogus overtime rule in an effort to reduce the number of plays. A two-point conversion will be REQUIRED during a second OT period (the requirement is during the THIRD OT now), and all offensive series will be banished once the third OT is reached, to be replaced by a one-and-done two-point conversion. This is going to result in a LOT of score confusion.

SH's Reactionary Solution: Ban the stat-padding NCAA overtime altogether, and accept the tie during regular-season games, and institute an old-school NFL overtime for playoff games with the caveat that overtime doesn't become sudden death until BOTH teams have had possession of the ball. This will decrease the wear and tear and stat-padding of overtime games during the regular season and eliminate the NFL's bogus "safety beats a field goal" rule. There's nothing wrong with a tie, other than the artificial embarrassment of "kissing your sister." Another positive aspect of this is that it would foster more aggressive late-game play through the expedient of going for touchdowns and two-point conversions instead of the more conventional (and boring) strategy of kicking field goals and stalling to force overtime.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
