Well it started unexpectedly for the Bison. Top CB Josh Hayes has left the team and is a probable for the transfer portal. Big loss prior to the UNI road game this weekend, if the game happens, and any playoff games the Bison may qualify for.

EWU has lost NFL hopeful Chris Ojoh at LB and our best DT, Jeith Moore.

Transfer rules continue to suck.

Heard there are something like 1300 kids in the men’s Hoops portal alone.

Sounds about right, NDSU lost 4 from this years basketball team and have added 3 .

Personally I like the new rules. Sure those that think they can cut it at the FBS level will bail, but FCS will also get those who want more playing time, etc.

I have no problem with the new rules, more freedom for the athletes. Go to wherever makes sense for the individual.

Could be a long thread over the summer.

Culp lasted 2 days, before backing out and taking a FBS offer.

Certainly can be cleaned up, but the days of locking down kids for years while coaches could and did leave without notice are done. No putting the horse back in the barn now, player freedom is here to stay. Just need to tidy up the process. Makes it more incumbent on the institutions to make it worthwhile for the kids to stay.

 Creating a culture where kids feel at home and don't want to leave will be more important than ever. That will be good for the athletes and the schools.

If we are lucky. Otherwise I think we will just jump straight to unofficial bribes.

Looks like Hayes landed at UVA as a graduate transfer. Gotta suck for NDSU, but playing your senior season at a Power 5, ACC school sounds like a lot of fun. Virginia is in the Coastal division so he won’t see Clemson or Florida State, but they’ve got Notre Dame on the non-conf schedule.

Wonder if Cox would have been drafted higher if he had not played for a bad LSU defense, under Bo Pellini this year. Still a good experience for Cox, playing SEC football, and being the best defensive player on the field for LSU.

Valid concern. However, Cox wasn’t an FBS All-American or All-SEC selection, he also wasn’t the best defensive player for LSU, that’d arguably be Derek Stingley Jr.

Cox is one of those players that FCS coaches stayed away from and ran plays the other direction. This hurt his stats. Watch some of the Bison games where he directs other players to make good plays. Against Illinois State, he fell down, missed James Robinson in the backfield, 15 yards later he tackled Robinson.

Jabril Cox was the best defensive player on the field in most games he played for North Dakota State. Now his new coach says he's the best player on the field at LSU.

That's high praise, considering his new coach is Ed Orgeron of defending Football Bowl Subdivision champion Tigers.

2x FCS All-American
3× FCS champion (2017, 2018, 2019)
MVFC Defensive Player of the Year (2018)
MVFC Freshman of the Year (2017)
2× first-team All-MVFC (2018, 2019)
Second-team All-MVFC (2017)

0x FBS All-American.
0x SEC All Conference selection.

He’s a great player, no debate there. Leaving NDSU for LSU probably hurt him more than it helped him.

UVA got 2 JMU grad transfers last yr. One of them was D’Angelo Amos, a 2x AA punt returner, and last yr Draft Scout had him as the #2 FS in FCS. For UVA played in all 10 games, started 5. Ended up not drafted, UDFA Lions. The other was a 2 yr starting DT at JMU, for UVA played all 10 games/started 6, coming back for a 6th season.

Also last year transferring to UVA from Towson, Shane Simpson, 2018 AA RB. For UVA played all 10 games/started 1. Of course UVA is just 50 miles down the road from JMU, and Towson is somewhat local..

Doubt many other (if any) P5 program has gotten 4 FCS transfers in about a 9 month period. UVA bas now had success with them, so maybe more open to taking them than other P5s..
