Cal Poly postpones first two football games

Post by JALMOND »

Due to COVID in the Mustangs' program, Cal Poly's first two games against UC-Davis and Weber State have been postponed. The game against the Aggies will be made up on March 20. No date was given for the Weber game.

Hopefully Weber's game against Davis or games after the first bye dont get cancelled cause then Weber wont be able to make them up now that the Poly game is during the 2nd bye. Could be huge for us.

Yeah, a 6-0 Weber would get a seed, even without a win over another playoff team. 5-0 would get Weber would get in the playoffs AQ or At Large, but likely not a seed, esp without a win over another playoff team. And 4-1 would be on the bubble for an At-Large. If Weber has another opponent cancel, the AD should make every effort to find another opponent, even if had to pull a BYU @ Liberty type scenario.

Yeah, or maybe even try to get NMSU on the phone or another FCS team who's game is also cancelled. Not sure that would be allowed though, I think the Big Sky said no other games vs non Big Sky teams. Maybe we can get Montana or Montana State to agree to play lol

W&M @ JMU next Sat postponed. China Virus protocols with JMU. Both teams have bye dates on 4/17, so I assume will be made up then.

FWIW of the 41 games scheduled for next week, W&M @ JMU 1 of only 3 postponed.
https://www.ncaa.com/scoreboard/footbal ... 5/all-conf

If you look at the last 4 weeks on the NCAA website:
Week 1: 19 games scheduled/7 postponed.
Week 2: 29 games scheduled/4 postponed.
Week 3: 35 games scheduled/4 postponed.
Week 4: 41 games scheduled/3 postponed so far.

Total 124 games scheduled/18 postponed, about 15%. So if you play 6-8 games, odds are you will have 1 postponement..

Griz have two games scheduled this spring already, CWU on April 10 and PSU on April 17. Portland State just has the Montana game scheduled so far, tho.

I wonder if Portland would be down to a spring game against Weber. We may need it as now it's possible our game vs Davis gets cancelled :ohno:

Sucks for Idaho. I see they had 8 starters missing in their 27-17 loss to UCD due to the China Virus.

UR @ JMU postponed.

Post by BDKJMU »

UR @ JMU postponed- China Virus on JMU‘s end again.. 2 in a row for JMU. Can make up 1 of the 2 on 4/17. Can‘t make them both up. So now only 7 games for JMU/5 CAA...and that’s assuming no other cancellations..

Who said the virus is a hoax? But that doesn't mean we need to have shutdowns/lockdowns, or postponing/cancelling games for a virus that by and large doesn't effect young, healthy people.

No -most of those coaches, trainers, refs aren't elderly and don't have co-morbidities.

Once again ignores any semblance of community or that 550,000 people have died from the flu.

UD @ UNH postponed.

Post by BDKJMU »

Unlike the CAA South, the CAA North didn't leave an open weekend for the teams on 4/17, so UD @ UNH can't be made up..Would make too much sense for UD (3-0)/UR (2-0) to play each other this weekend..
UD to UNH: 404 miles.
UD to UR: 205 miles.

If BYU and Liberty can do it last minute flying cross country..

Post by BDKJMU »

Right now of 40 games scheduled this upcoming weekend on NCAA.com, only 5 postponed (UNH/UD not showing as postponed yet, but I'm sure will be updated soon). 2 CAA games, 2 Big South games, and 1 Patriot. FWIW looks like due to all mid Atlantic & northeast teams...Other 7 AQ conferences' games all showing a go..

I was under the impression that 4 wins was the minimum required to make the playoffs this year

No, but they'll be playing between 5 to 7 games, so that is a moot point. Could have a 3rd in a row cancelled, but could also have a makeup on 4/17.

This fall the worst in terms of cancellations/postponements in a row was Charlotte with 3 in a row. 4 is the minimum required for the playoffs. I think would need 5-0 (sweeping of Elon, W&< UR + 2 OOC wins) to get the AQ or an At-Large.
