Can Nicholls shock the world? Well, uh, no. As long as NDSU doesn't play like they did against Missouri State, this one shouldn't be in doubt.

Strangely, I have this feeling Nicholls State has a chance because of the type of team Nicholls State is. When Sam Houston State's played North Dakota State in the playoffs I've never thought they had much of a chance. I have a different feeling about Nicholls State.

Obviously I favor North Dakota State to win and would not be surprised to see a big blowout. But Nicholls State has looked awfully good at times this year and they have some studs on the line of scrimmage. They were Jekyll and Hyde for sure. But I'm going to be watching with interest at the start to see if Hyde shows up and this turns out to be a ball game.

Bison pull away late to win 37-13

I thought Nicholls was hanging in there pretty well until they had two consecutive possessions where they started drives running the ball well then tried to throw the ball deep into double coverage and got it intercepted each time.

The first time the score was 14-13. They had a 7 yard run and a 6 yard run to get a first down. Then they threw deep into double coverage and it was returned deep into their territory. Defense did a good job to hold NDSU to a field goal to make it 17-13.

They got the ball back and had runs of 6, 1, and 8 yards to get another first down. Then they did the throw deep into double coverage again and NDSU returned it to the Nicholls 13. NDSU cashed in with a TD that time and it was 24-13.

I think Nicholls' back was broken after that. Both of the deep throws into double coverage were very dumb, I thought. I guess they figure they can throw it up and that really good receiver they have will come down with it regardless. But they really got burned doing that.

Bison had too many penalties. Back up kicker missed 2 FG's and an xp. QB was rusty and made a few bad throws early. Defence could not stop Nocholls on 1st down the entire 1st half. Young team, hopefully learned a few things today.
