1R - CCSU @ Albany

It's difficult to compare these two because CCSU's schedule is so weak and because their only common opponent with Albany is Bryant, who they both blew out. The Blue Devils have been impeccable—relative to their weak opponents, anyway—on offense & defense. Their special teams, however, are garbage. They are 7/18 on FGs, they give up 16.9 yards-per-punt-return, and they are 2nd. to last in net punting with a pathetic 28.1 average. Albany isn't really equipped to take advantage of that weakness, however, because their special teams aren't a whole lot better. The Danes also played a relatively weak schedule by CAA standards, they have no notable wins, and they're only really in the field because they avoided a loss to James Madison by not playing them. I'll take the Blue Devils… ur, I guess?

I agree CCSU has quite a record, I just dont think they have been tested. I think Albany wins this.
CCSU does have highly ranked run offense and defense. It would be fun to see if MSU can hang 380 rushing yards on another highly ranked rush defense though.

This game is a perfect example of why we need to go back to full-on seeded regionalization. These guys have no business playing each other is what is otherwise a 3-6 contest, and an 11-win team has no business being a 6 seed, even if their SOS is suspect. CCSU would probably be on the 3 or 4 line, but certainly not on the 6 line, ready to immediately face a strong regional 2 like the Kitties....

I-AA/FCS never had full seeded regionalization. That's what DII has. I-AA/FCS has been informally semi-regionalized since 2001, but it wasn't regionalized at all when everyone was seeded prior to that.

Well then who would you have each one playing in the 1st round?

NEITHER one of these teams are in the top half of the playoff field.
-Albany (8-4/6-2) didn't play JMU or VU, and lost to Monmouth in OT. So 0-1 vs the field. Excluding their loss @ C Mich, they lost @ 5-7 Richmond, and vs 6-6 Maine.
-CCSU only lost 34-29 @ E Mich, and was 11-0 vs I-AA. But they didn't play a single playoff team, and only played TWO teams with winning records (vs Div I) (7-5 Sacred Heart & 7-5 Robert Morris). Everyone they beat was from the 45 scholly NEC,the Patriot, & non scholly Valpo & Columbia. While they would certainly be deserving of an At large if the NEC didn't have an AQ, their SOS was HORRIBLE.
So the two teams are a combined 19-3 vs I-AA, but they are a combined 0-1 vs the field. If the entire field was seeded, both of them would have been seeded in the bottom half, maybe around #15 to #20. There's NOTHING wrong with Albany/CCSU playing in the 1st round.

Albany's up 35-7 nearing end 3Q.
Man. I was expecting Albany to win and all, but I DID expect CCSU to put up more of a fight....

Albany took charge in the 3rd qtr. On TD pass was a thing a beauty, about 10-20 right to the running back (I think) as he entered the end zone.

Just over 4 minutes left, and Albany just put in the backup QB. Good move....

Two minute warning hits at 1:59, just after Albany punts to the CCSU 7.

I saw the 1st quarter and this looked like it would be a good game. Them Albany took them to the woodshed.
MSU will mud stomp either of these teams. I'll be surprised if the game isn't over by halftime.
