Every other year the Bison have played a good road game besides the FBS games. EWU, Montana, Delaware are the most recent.

Already 12 years ago and before that... never. So yeah, I guess there's a chance Lloyd.

NDSU is regressing and its sad as hell.
Trey Lance gonna be a sophomore , we should be playing big time teams. Play 2 FBS games a year, lets show some dam pride.
As things stand these games won’t generate much buzz.

In general the addition of these teams has fired up the NDSU FBS crowd of which I am one. This is the kind of argument you see against moving up:

If we were FBS indy here is an example
UMass- terrible
New Mexico St - terrible
Liberty- terrible
Eastern Michigan- terrible
Shitty sun belt and MAC teams that we and most of the MVFC and CAA teams are better than
Anyone that thinks we would have a full slate of P5 and MWC teams is living in fantasy land, and getting P5 at home...lol not for 20 years if ever anymore, maybe for a 5 for 1
No conference FBS is a death sentence
Its a false argument. NDSU has a market large enough to support FBS football. They are leaving money on the table.
That schedule is far from complete. Its missing the big games they can't get now. NDSU can't schedule many FBS games. They wont call back. Most FCS schools the same way. That's why we have these teams coming to town. With an FBS designation there are many new scheduling doors open. These are the games NDSU fans are looking for.
Every division has its also-rans so the NDSU schedule would still be filled with some blow-outs but it will in total be far more interesting than the one we have now. No offense to the rest of FCS but NDSU is leaving a lot of money on the table by voluntarily hobbling themselves with an FCS designation. Lots of closed doors.
In the meantime FCS is fun football and we will continue to watch and enjoy.

To be competitive in the MAC NDSU needs a 20-30 million dollar athletic budget. Of course we would only be playing football in the MAC so it might be cheaper, it might not.
To be competitive in the MWC NDSU needs a 40-50 million dollar athletic budget. Same thing goes though, we would be football only.
In most respects we are already there. The patient policy of "grow into it" is starting to come to fruition. If NDSU can find $5-10 million more annually its a done deal for the MAC.
Media, advertising, sponsorships, higher ticket prices depending on opponent. Conference payouts, increase merchandise sales, beer at the FFD, student fees if they approve. All of these could easily raise the money for the MAC but probably not the MWC, but maybe with invite in hand it could happen.
They would need to have a lot of scheduling commitments in front of them before they could go as an independent. A lot of business infrastructure needs to be installed.

Northern Illinois (DeKalb, IL) is the furthest western school and Buffalo the furthest eastern school in the MAC. Fargo is as far from DeKalb as Buffalo so adding NDSU would double the geographic size of the conference. I don't think the MAC is inviting NDSU anytime soon.

Yea, I don’t think we would get invited either. We would be at that budget level as an independent though. I guess that’s what I meant. Might not be enough with the travel.
2 choices: independent or invite. dont see an invite
Could get lucky with schedule and stay pretty much in the upper Midwest and northeast plus the independents every year, SDSU and probably an FCS. Probably a couple BSC or MVFC teams willing to play an FBS game in Fargo.
I don’t really care if they do it but would be in favor if they could do it. FCS is a good division to be in.

NDSU and SDSU created the Great West Football Conference with other FCS independent friends and allies needing a similar structure. This old conference could be fired up among the FBS independents to support them in an alliance with The Mighty Land Grants.
They have done it once.
