New Coaches Poll

I'm not thrilled with this. Posted today, the current FCS Coaches Poll understandably drops previous #21 EWU out, but only raises Sac to #2 among ORV. I'm EXTREMELY disgruntled about this.

STATS has not posted an updated poll yet. I suspect that they will do so later today.

6 Montana State 5-1 508 7
7 Villanova 6-0 506 8
8 Montana 5-1 480 9
9 Towson 3-2 406 T-10

How in God's green Earth can folks rank a 2-4 team that's only beaten Lehigh and San Diego? I get that they lost to good teams, but you should have to at least beat somebody by this point in the season to be ranked, or have not lost 4 times.

Not a bad poll. About the same as the definitive AGS poll. Villanova is out of the top 5. When you get down to the lower rankings they can all be a little squirrelly. Once the UND game was over the difference between the 2 teams wasn’t that much. UND wins the first half, UCD the second. The difference is the bounce of the ball. Enough coaches felt UCD was still better coached with superior athletes, they may be right.

The GAM saw the upset, UND by 6. It was 2.

Coaches do look at it a little differently than fans, if they look at it much at all.

While I agree with you here, it probably has something to do with their initial bogus placement in the Top 5 based on last year's over-the-top performance. One more loss, or even a crappy win, next week, and they'll be back amongst the ORVs, and one more after that and they won't even have that....

Proof that I-AA overall is down. That team is no way a top 15 team of years gone by.

Any poll that has 2 teams ranked in Week 7 with losing records isn’t worth the paper its written on.
Why in God’s name would someone rank a 2-4 team?

Ditto. I should have read ahead before posting. There should be a simple rule for polls. Teams with losing records can’t be ranked once Oct hits. I don’t care who they played.

It’s the UNI/MFVC model: a season full of quality losses to tough teams!

Could be. Have to try to offset the over representation of non ECB teams.

A&T is creeping up on the list.
