I don't think either program thought it'd work out this way but it's no issue. From https://cyclones.com/news/2018/9/12/foo ... dec-1.aspx:
The game will be contested unless Iowa State qualifies for the Big 12 Championship Game (Dec. 1 in Arlington, Texas) or Incarnate Word qualifies for the FCS playoffs.
If Nicholls State loses to Southeastern Louisiana, which is possible, Incarnate Word will be the Southland automatic bid.
