For someone who's been away from the conference for 20+ years, you gotta love the optimism.

ISU beat the Pack last year. I can only hope the Viks do it again.

ISU 2017: Idaho State 2-6 4-7 309 391 3-2 1-5 Lost 3

ISU is light years behind the rest of the BSC...but light years ahead of PSU.

PSU will lose by 20.

We first need to find a QB. And a kicker. And an OLine. And some running backs.

But we do have a tight end.

I hope Jon turns out to be wrong about McNeese at Northern Colorado but in reading about the Bears I learned that they have a freshman who broke the Texas High School single game rushing record with 599 yards in 49 carries during a competitive offensive shoot out his team won by 63-50. His name is Matt Gadek and he's from McKinney High School in the Dallas area. The guy ran for 2,265 yards in 10 games last season. And he was playing in Dallas area 6A high school football. That is about as high a level of high school football as one can play in. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry.

The Northern Colorado site story on their final pre season scrimmage reports him as the offensive star.

He was a bit small at 5-10, 175 pounds and I suspect that's why Northern Colorado has him. Here are some highlights from his 599 yard performance:

Buddy... Pal... Have you met Bobby H.?

I may not be all that smart but

1: Don't bet against Bobby
2: Losing to UNI doesn't happen
3: If you are unsure of about the Griz football team ask Ursus- He knows things

OH...almost forgot

4: Have you seen the stadium???

THURSDAY, AUGUST 30
Weber State @ Utah - Wont be the beating it was last time but I still feel Utah wins by at least 3 scores.
Western Illinois @ Montana State - Gonna be a low scoring game, game is won by a Montana State defensive score.
UC Davis @ San Jose State - Davis has a great QB and one of the nation's best receivers. But not sure what else they have right now. Spartans in a come from behind win.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 31
Western State Colorado @ Idaho State - Idaho State should hang 60+ on these guys.
Portland State @ Nevada - Portland State needs to take advantage of the talent they have. Nevada wont lose to an FCS team 2 years in a row.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
3:30 PM Cal Poly @ North Dakota State - I'm hoping Poly can keep it competitive, but I think NDSU runs away big with this one.
McNeese State @ Northern Colorado - Still not sold on a Collins led UNC team
Central Washington @ Eastern Washington - Eastern starts slow. Finishes with big win.
Northern Arizona @ UTEP - NAU better come out and wipe off the stain losing to San Diego at home in the playoffs left.
North Alabama @ Southern Utah - Southern Utah is good at home....except against Weber State.
St. Francis (IL) @ Sacramento State - Hornets BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG!
Northern Iowa @ Montana - Northern Iowa just cant seem to beat Montana, even when they probably should.
Idaho @ Fresno State - I honestly think the Vandals keep this closer than most think.

Actually Lomax is going to be one of the regulars on the college football show on the main sports talk station in Portland this year (102.9 The Game). It is going to be nice having some Vik flavor on a Portland station every Saturday.

Over the course of the next few years the fortunes of Idaho State will begin to turn a bit more positive because of the direction the new President is going to take.

One of the first things he did was sack the AD, which is something that needed to be done for a long time. Bengal fans finally have a reason for a bit of optimism.

This year, I would be very content with .500 and a win over the Vandals. They do have some offensive firepower, but the defense is not there yet.
