1R - San Diego @ NAU

Just like last year, the PFL-champ Toreros head off to play a Big Sky team that was fading down the stretch. In 2016, as we all know, San Diego got the Pioneer League their first playoff win. I don't think that will happen this time, however—San Diego just doesn't match up well. Both teams are better throwing than running, but NAU has much better pass defense. Add that to the home field & altitude and Jerome Souers should come away with his second playoff win.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- (push)
Running Backs - NAU
Receivers/TEs - NAU
Offensive Line - (push)
Defensive Line - (push)
Linebackers --- NAU
Secondary ---- NAU
Kicking ------ NAU
Punting ------ San Diego
Return Teams - San Diego
Kickoffs ------ San Diego

The non scholly schools should have their own playoffs and quit taking the real FCS playoff slots.

You know last year San Diego knocked Cal Poly out of the playoffs. I'd say that showed they belong in the playoffs, even if they don't offer scholarships.

If NAU loses this game, dback should do backwards wind sprints up and down the Grand Canyon.

They don't offer scholarships....they offer grants in aid.

Fun fact! Torero coach Dale Lindsey is one month younger than Mick Delaney.

10-0 San Diego after an amazing one-handed catch by Priest. NAU has yet to get a first down.

San Diego with a 15-yard TD run after a sack-fumble.
24-7 San Diego, late-2Q
Why did NAU get in ahead of Montana & EWU, again?

Two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties means USD gets to kick off from the NAU 35.
San Diego didn't choose to onside it for some reason.

Apparently Elijah Marks is not playing today. If I'd known that, I certainly wouldn't have picked a 17-point margin.

Dback greased some wheels with the selection committee if you know what I mean.

NAU is getting smacked around by the team I felt Weber should have hosted.

Dwelley with another touchdown. 41-10 Toreros, 9:24 4Q
I think they officially have to rename the building the Anthony Lawrence Walkup Skydome.

Though I still think Weber should have gotten San Diego, I am glad Weber got and beat Western Illinois, not only is it probably the biggest win in Program history, but the better team gets us ready and prepared for the next round. Beating WIU was a bigger win for Weber than beating San Diego would have been.

Nearly every Cookus deep ball has been way underthrown.

San Diego backups now in for mop-up duty.
Never thought I'd be writing that sentence…
