NOCO 21-50 SAC
UCD 56-17 IDST
UND 21-47 SUU
NAU 15-17 UMT
KENN 16-14 MTST

  • NConf Record: 0-1
    Overall: 13-22

    vs. FCS: 0-1
    Overall: 9-7

Best Performance: (#19) Weber St. 28, (#11) Eastern Washington 20 - Stefan Cantwell outduels Gage Gubrud, putting up a 162 efficiency rating to Gubrud's paltry 103.

Worst Performance: Idaho St. 17, UC Davis 56 - With a chance to finish with their 2nd. winning record in 14 years, the Bengals get threshed in their own barn.

Most Surprising Result: Montana 17, (#18) Northern Arizona 15 - An oddball game for so many reasons: Montana plays a WR/TE at QB for nearly the whole game & wins (Makena Simis had UM's second 100-yard rushing day of the season); NAU's starting QB is ejected for targeting in the first quarter; both teams had a season-low in points against an FCS opponent; UM's leading receiver, Keenan Curran, finishes the game with more interceptions (1) than catches (0). :?

Southland

UIW 20-57 SHSU
UCA 42-14 LAM
ACU 23-26 NWST (OT)
SELU 3-13 MCNSE
HBU 17-23 NICH

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 8-14

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 6-4

Best Performance: (#22) McNeese St. 13, Southeastern Louisiana 3 - SELU was averaging 308 rushing ypg coming in, and the Cowboys held them to 77.

Worst Performance: Incarnate Word 20, (#5) Sam Houston St. 57 - The Cardinals allow 23 points in the first 13 minutes and are outgained 600-254 for the game.

Most Surprising Result: Nicholls St. 23, Houston Baptist 17 - Maybe I should put "surprising" in quotes because this was the Colonels' 4th. straight narrow win over the Southland cannon fodder.

Missouri Valley

NDSU 21-33 SDKST
SDK 29-34 UNI
WIU 31-14 ILST
MIZST 36-28 SIU
YSU 66-24 INST

    Overall: 20-10

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 18-4

Best Performance: (#10) South Dakota St. 33, (#2) North Dakota St. 21 - Taryn Christion throws for 329 yards on just 33 attempts while his counterpart, Easton Stick, throws 3 picks.

Worst Performance: Indiana St. 24, Youngstown St. 66 - The Sycamore "defense" allows Ricky Davis to put up an efficiency rating of 438.

Most Surprising Result: Southern Illinois 28, Missouri St. 36 - SIU looked like a team that could be taken seriously a couple weeks ago. So much for that…

OVC

UTM 16-14 SEMO
EKU 20-23 EIU (OT)
MUR 23-59 JAXST
AP 35-28 TTU

  • NConf Record: 0-0

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 6-7

Best Performance: (#3) Jacksonville St. 59, Murray St. 23 - Despite a slow start, the Gamecocks win rushing 323 to minus-3.

Worst Performance: Tennessee St. - (see Mississippi Valley State 2 weeks ago)

Most Surprising Result: Austin Peay 38, Tennessee Tech 31 - If the Govs want any chance of making the playoffs, they're gonna have to beat the weaker OVC teams worse than this.

Pioneer League

DRAKE 15-45 USD
MARIST 17-36 DAY
CAMP 42-29 DVDSN
VALPO 17-20 JU
BUT 23-6 STET

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 13-19

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 3-18

Best Performance: San Diego 45, Drake 15 - Anthony Lawrence shreds another opponent as the Toreros all but clinch the PFL auto.

Worst Performance: Stetson 6, Butler 23 - The Hatters throw 2 pick-sixes and finish with minus-21 rushing yards.

Most Surprising Result: Marist 17, Dayton 36 - The Red Foxes looked pretty solid in September, but they've lost 4 straight—3 of them by ugly margins—since then.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

I'm sure you'll bemoan this as the pussification of football, but it was the correct call as the rule is written.

I hope I don't jinx them by saying it but McNeese has yet to allow any team to reach 100 yards rushing this season. In both of their losses they had a significant edge in the statistics in terms of first downs, rushing yards, and total yards. I think that they can be pretty decent if they don't give up big plays in the passing game as well as non offensive touchdowns like they did in those two losses.

If they don't make the playoffs they will have really wasted a situation in which they appear to be pretty darned good physically on defense.

It is the pussification of football- a line backer isn’t defenseless..

Not surprising. In our homecoming game at Lodi this year, the Stockton-Bear Creek quarterback SHOULD have been ejected for targeting the DB who had just picked him off (also our kicker). Alas, there wasn't even a flag on that play. SMH....

Defenselessness isn't required. Leading with the shoulder/head toward the other guy's head (& hitting) is targeting whether the player is "defenseless" or not.

Cookus tried to manufacture some "tough guy" cred by smacking a defender, and it backfired big time.

5 .... maybe 6 turnovers in the red zone? If you don’t give is the worst performance tomorrow I’m going to stop taking you seriously

(And you won’t find me making this request much, ever)

Your team didn't lose to East Tennessee by 18, so no.

I guess The Citadel can earn the coveted "Worst Performance by a Team Not Called the Keydets" award. :thumb:

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 8-24

Best Performance: Holy Cross 42, Fordham 20 - Even with Chase Edmonds on the other sideline, the Crusaders still dominate rushing 354-64.

Worst Performance: Bucknell 21, Lehigh 42 - Chad Freshnock's 174 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground are wasted thanks to 4 Bison turnovers.

Most Surprising Result: Holy Cross 42, Fordham 20 - Too little, too late, but the Crusaders seem to have returned to their early-season form.

NEC

DUQ 24-27 LIB
RMU 7-27 WAG
SACHRT 45-48 BRY
SFPA 10-28 CCSU

  • NConf Record: 0-1

    Overall: 9-15

Best Performance: Central Connecticut St. 28, St. Francis (PA) 10 - The Blue Devils hold SFPA to just 32 passing yards to set up a winner-take-all showdown with Duquesne this coming Saturday.

Worst Performance: Robert Morris 7, Wagner 27 - The Colonials allow 8 sacks and 15 tackles-for-loss against the (formerly) last-place team.

Most Surprising Result: Duquesne 24, Liberty 27 - A.J. Hines's 253 rushing yards aren't enough to prevent the Dukes from blowing a 24-7 lead.

CAA

RICH 22-0 NOVA
ALB 21-28 SBU (OT)
UD 31-17 MAINE
JMU 38-3 URI
UNH 35-16 W&M

Most Surprising Result: (#7) Elon 33, Towson 30 (2OT) - Oddly, since Malcolm Summers went down, Elon's defense has struggled more than their offense.

Big South

PRESBY 21-42 MONM
CHSO 10-9 GWEBB
KENN 16-14 MTST

  • NConf Record: 1-0
    Overall: 19-13

    Overall: 13-9

Best Performance: (#25) Kennesaw St. 16, Montana St. 14 - The Owls nearly double the Bobcats in time-of-possession while Justin Thompson makes all 3 of his field-goal attempts in wintry Bozeman conditions.

Worst Performance: Presbyterian 21, Monmouth 42 - The Blue Hose fall to 2-12 in conference play over the past 3 seasons.

Most Surprising Result: (#25) Kennesaw St. 16, Montana St. 14 - Kennesaw opens the door for a possible at-large in case they don't win the Big South.

SoCon

UTC 21-24 WOFF (2OT)
WCU 31-19 CIT
SAM 20-3 MER
VMI 6-24 ETSU

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 12-12

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 9-5

Best Performance: (#16) Samford 20, Mercer 3 - Mercer has only lost 4 conference games by more than 2 touchdowns since joining the SoCon in 2014. Samford is now responsible for 2 of those.

Worst Performance: VMI 6, East Tennessee St. 24 - The Keydets can't do virtually anything right this year: they're being outscored 36-7 on average, they're being outgained 437-212, they're being outrushed 224-82, and they have a minus-18 turnover margin.

Most Surprising Result: The Citadel 19, (#24) Western Carolina 31 - Whatever playoff hopes the Bulldogs had evaporated after 2 lost fumbles and 3 interceptions on just 8 pass attempts.

Tomorrow: Non-Playoff Folks…

I went to both last year's 84-7 JMU win over URI, and last Saturday's 38-3 win. URI with their new starting QB (transfer from New Mex, has started the last 3 games) is way better than last year on both sides of the ball. The 2 games prior to JMU were 35-34 loss to Elon (missed PAT) and 31-14 win over Albany. IMHOP the 2nd most improved CAA team after Elon, even though URI's record doesn't reflect it. They really should/could have been 5-3 coming in- should have beaten C Mich (lost by 3 in OT), should have beaten Brown (lost by 3), and should have beaten Elon.

That said, in the 1st half JMU played their worst half of football in a long time, worst I've seen offensively since 2013, and were only up 7-3. Houston probably peeled paint at halftime. 2nd half JMU puts up 31 unanswered...

22nd straight win, 15th straight by double digits. Also the 16th straight CAA win, breaking a 50 year old record held by UMass from 1965-1967 back when it was the Yankee Conference..

Well, they're competitive now, which haven't been since 2011. Only blown out in 2 of their 7 losses, and both of those were only the 2nd half: Maine (down by 2 at the half, lost by 24) & JMU..
2010: 5-6
2011: 3-8 (avg loss by 10 ppg)
2012: 0-11
2013: 3-9 (avg loss by 29 ppg)
2014: 1-11
2015: 1-10
2016: 2-9 (avg loss by 29 ppg)
2017: 2-7 so far (avg loss by 14 ppg). Could finish 3-8. Even if they finish 2-9, are way better than last year's 2-9.
