Alcorn doesn't score in the second half, but still beats Alabama State in Montgomery 24-10.

Yes I watched some of it. At this point the fact that McNeese held Alcorn State to 7 yard rushing encourages me. In their other FCS games...albeit all SWAC... Alcorn State rushed for 402 (Southern), 244 (Texas Southern), and now 311 (Alabama State).

It's just really, really sad that McNeese lost to Nicholls State in a game they totally dominated physically. They'd be in really good position right now if they hadn't done that.

McNeese is in good shape anyway. They don't play Sam Houston, and most every other team in the Southland is garbage. They'll be an underdog against UCA, but will definitely be favored to win the other 5.

SCSU beats Morgan 35-14. Kind of an odd game: Morgan got 2 safeties in the third quarter, then SCSU scored 3 touchdowns within 3 minutes early in the fourth.

VU 21, Maine 0, halftime. Coming off another bye week I had Maine winning this one...JMU off this week, gets VU next week in Harrisonburg..

-Maine's 1st possession punt was block, led to VU's 1st TD.
-Maine's 2nd possession they failed to convert on a fake punt (4th and 8 from your own 43, what kind of idiotic call is that?) (Maine defense held).
-Maine's 1st possession 2nd qtr fumbled at VU 3 yard line, VU recovered at the 9 and 91 yards scoop and score for TD. That right there is a 14 point swing..
-Maine's 2nd possession 2nd qtr threw INT, led to VU's 3rd TD.
-Maine's next possession 2nd qtr throw ANOTHER INT (Maine defense held).

So Maine has had 3 turnovers, suffered a blocked punt, failed to convert a fake punt, and was once held on downs. All 3 of VU's scores have been been set up by their defense & special teams..

Yep, and that's despite no running game at all.

The 'Jacks just scored to put it away. 37-16 with ≈2:30 left.

That was the only drive with any semblance of a running game.

Very poor clock management on that drive.

The fact that the Southland is down is a factor in why losing to Nicholls State in a game they should have won by a comfortable margin hurts. Also, losing that game cost them a reasonable shot at winning the Southland title outright.

Tonight, though, they got away with "Stupid Head Coaching Decisions" syndrome. First they had a six point lead and 4th and 1 at the ACU 10. Their defense was playing lights out so bringing the lead to 9 points would've been huge. Instead of taking a shot at the short field goal they went for it on 4th down and got stopped.

Then with about 1:11 left and ACU out of time outs all they had to do was run the ball and they could've run the clock down to less than 20 seconds. But instead they threw it downfield and stopped the clock. BUT they got bailed out by an after-the-play unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on ACU. So they were able to do victory formation and run out the clock.

BTW I didn't know until I watched the game tonight that Abilene Christian's new head coach is the guy that coached Northwest Missouri State to three of the past four Division II National Championships. He was 76-8 during his six seasons at Northwest Missouri State. It'll be interesting to see what he can do at Abilene Christian.

That last drive of the game featured more poor clock management much like the last drive of the 1st half. The final drive featured the dungpilers blowing their final 2 TOs in the first 3 plays of the drive...3 plays that got them all of 9 yards. The game was theirs to lose, and they lost it.
