SHSU and JMU - two great offenses, and no defense. It's like a throwback to the Big Sky of the 1990's, but with no Big Sky teams involved. Over/under could be triple digits.

Oh JMU has a defense. #s are above avg, ranking in the 30s in both Scoring and Total Defense.

Numbers schnumbers. The CAA is chocked full of offensively deficient teams, which makes JMU stand out even more. If JMU keeps winning they're going to do it outscoring teams because of the offense.

Let's go SDSU..If JMU beats SHSU I'd much rather the semis be SDSU @ JMU versus JMU @ NDSU..

I'm more likely to go to the JMU @ NDSU game than SDSU @ JMU ;)

Similar deal for Richmond. They rank #2 in FCS against the pass giving up only 149 ygp. But then you look at the schedule and they've played very few passing teams. JMU was the best and Schor threw for around 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Just look at Delaware - anyone who saw that defense for the Hens this year would agree that it was mediocre at best. However, that defense actually ranks 34th in all of FCS (which is 5 spots better than JMU's 39th in FCS) for total defense. When Delaware played a good offensive team, ala JMU, that 34th ranked defense gave up a staggering 607 yards of offense and 43 points, and that was with JMU calling the dogs off at the end. That just goes to show that Delaware, and JMU, were able to pad their defensive stats against some really bad offensive CAA teams during the season.

True, but JMU's defense is playing A LOT better than back in Sept/Oct. 4th DC in 4 seasons and has taken them time to gel going from 3-4 back to 5-2.

Also the defensive #s throughout the season have been better through the 1st 3 quarters, probably top 20-25, but have been skewed downward due to 4th quarter in at least 5 games having a lead and taking a siesta and/or it was garbage time vs 2nd/3rd string, where they've given up 10 4th quarter TDs (and gobs of yards)

Vs UD 4th qtr up 40-7. Final 43-20.
Vs W&M 4th qtr up 24-10. Final 31-24, W&M scores TD with 3 seconds left.
Vs UNH 4th qtr up 42-10. Final 42-39, UNH scores 4 TDs last 10 min, including with 15 seconds left.
Vs UR 4th qtr JMU up 47-36. Final 47-43. UR scores TD on last play of game.
Vs UNH 4th qtr JMU up 55-15. Final 55-22, UNH scores with 20 seconds left.

I'm sure SHSU's defense is better than their terrible defensive #s indicate, as they play a hurry up (putting defense on the field more) and they've been in a ton of blowouts where I'm sure their defense has taken 4th quarter siestas with backups..

Just curious, do folks think Richmond has a shot at EWU?

Looking at their last 2 games they trailed @ 3-8 PSU for most of the game until winning 35-28. They beat UCA 31-14 on Sat, who might have been the weakest playoff team left in the Round of 16. I suspect UR now, even with all their injuries and with this Johnson kid replacing Lauletta, is still better than UCA. Sure UR has a chance & while I wouldn't be shocked at a UR win, I think EWU wins by a TD or 2.

Agreed. The Spiders are playing with house money and have a shot but the travel and injuries might catch up at some point.

PSU always plays us tough but I really liked the way our defense has played over the last 6 games. UCA may have had a weak SLC schedule but they still had the 24th ranked offense in FCS including games against Samford and ASU. We absolutely shut them down for the last 2 1/2 quarters giving up just 244 yards of total offense for the game.

Had a dream last night that I was at a UD playoff game at PSU. Not sure which is less plausible, that PSU would be hosting a playoff game or that UD would be in one.

One part of that is certainly more plausible than the other. :coffee:
