Does uni have an expoitable secondary?SeattleGriz wrote:Great game. Can Montana exploit the UNI secondary enough to win? Montana has a bunch of new wide receivers.
Some of their secondary that graduated were studs. Be hard to fill those shoes this early...I hope. Clenz said they started a WR at the CB position with seven days experience.AZGrizFan wrote:Does uni have an expoitable secondary?SeattleGriz wrote:Great game. I'm not overly concerned with our secondary but they will give up yards.SeattleGriz wrote:Some of their secondary that graduated were studs. Be hard to fill those shoes this early...I hope. Clenz said they started a WR at the CB position with seven days experience.AZGrizFan wrote:

Whatever man. See if I ever capitalize the gianforte school of computer science.SACCAT wrote:I refuse to capitalize um.Grizalltheway wrote:I refuse to post in a thread without proper capitalization.
Don't be mad, I wouldn't expect you to...Also he is only like the 5th biggest donor in recent years....It should be called the Jake Jabs "Thank God his daughter got caught running cocaine, so he gave us 50 million" school of business...Grizalltheway wrote:Whatever man. But did he stipulate that every classroom has to have a picture of Jebus in it?SACCAT wrote:Don't be mad, I wouldn't expect you to...Also he is only like the 5th biggest donor in recent years....It should be called the Jake Jabs "Thank God his daughter got caught running cocaine, so he gave us 50 million" school of business...Grizalltheway wrote: Whatever man. No, only stipulation was, no chalk can be used....To many bad memories.Grizalltheway wrote:But did he stipulate that every classroom has to have a picture of Jebus in it?SACCAT wrote:

This is the chess match I'm looking forward to in both of these match ups. UNI and NDSU both have great front 7's with good speed at linebacker, and they play aggressive. Eastern was able to get around our inexperience at o-line last week with short drops and Gubrud's quick release. He either got the ball out fast on short slants, bought time with designed roll outs, or used the threat of the read option to hold the pass defenders. I think Montana has a better oline and can also work the short passing game.clenz wrote:I'm not overly concerned with our secondary but they will give up yards.SeattleGriz wrote: Some of their secondary that graduated were studs. They gave up 235 to Iowa State, though that was mostly because Iowa State has a WR that doesn't belong at Iowa State and he made some damn fine catches. He had 126 of those yards on his 6 catches. He belongs at OU, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc... but he grew up an Iowa State fan and good for him for jumping at the chance to play for his home town team.
Even looking at last year, where the secondary had 2 guys currently on the 53 man roster of Green Bay and Chicago, along with a third at saftey that was a three time all conference/all american player, UNI finished 6th or 7th in the conference at yards given up/defensive efficiency. If I remember right UNI gave up about 240 through the air per game last season. UNI plays man with the corners and zone with the backers and and saftey spots.
The key to the secondary is the fact the run defense and pass rush is as good as it gets. Last season UNI gave up like 3.1 ypc for the season. UNI held Iowa State's Mike Warren, who lead all FBS freshman last season with 1,339 yards to 30 yards on 12 carries and Iowa State to 51 yards on 26 carries.
I saw a quote from Stitt that said he won't sell out to pressure the QB because it opens up the run game, but that is another strength UNI relies on. UNI is at/near the top of the FCS every year in sacks/TFL while being one of the top run defense in the league. UNI had 3 or 4 sacks and 7 (I think) TFL vs Iowa State last week. UNI dares you to beat them through the air because the front 4 is good enough to pressure the QB before he has time to let a 7 step drop develop and the LBs are fast enough to react to run/pass.
So yes, the secondary is there to be exploited....if you can.
If Gus has time he can make plays with the WRs, but UNI will do everything to make sure he gets happy feet early
Good luck this weekend...I hope Jebus is on your side.Grizalltheway wrote:I meant gianforte, butSACCAT wrote:

Me too! REALLY glad both games are on ESPN3. NAU at WIU is another classic Big Sky vs MVFC.kalm wrote:This is the chess match I'm looking forward to in both of these match ups. What's the counter? Adjust formations and rely on your dline to disrupt passing lanes? Come up into press with extra help over the top?
You might want to exploit the spell check function!AZGrizFan wrote:Does uni have an expoitable secondary?SeattleGriz wrote:Great game. Can Montana exploit the UNI secondary enough to win? Montana has a bunch of new wide receivers.
Heard you the first time.Bisonfanatical wrote:Can't see how UNI could possibly lose this game ... Griz had a hard time beating a non-ranked and very average team ... in their own house?
