According to Zem's Gems, and he has been a credible source:

I honestly don't know what to think. I can see that South Carolina State ranked pretty well in various FCS defensive stats. But they're in the MEAC. I guess time wlll tell.

SCSU always seems to have the best defense in the MEAC, but to call that conference "passing challenged" is generous. Still, it doesn't seem like their D got any worse during Restivo's brief time there.

It's kind of interesting in that Lance Guidry hired two coaches from the MEAC. This guy from South Carolina State and another guy from Florida A&M. Guidry says he considers Restivo to be an upgrade in the defensive coordinator's position over himself. I know hype is probably a factor but that's an interesting statement to make.
Guidry did not get the guy he wanted though. He didn't identify who it was but I remember that when he got the job he made statements indicating he was excited over who he was trying to get at that position. And in the Lake Charles American Press today it said the first guy he offered the job to did not accept.
That's not really that surprising as McNeese is not competitive when it comes to paying coaches. It has to rely on people wanting to coach there for other reasons.
