Shocked by the news of AJ Schlatter's passing. The Portland State linebacker was one of best young players on the league. Very sad.

Sad. RIP.
Just goes to show that anything can happen whenever you go under the knife, even just for a "routine" procedure.

That's messed up - you go to get your tonsils out & die of a blood clot. What are the chances?

From what I hear, getting your tonsils out as an adult is actually pretty dangerous. And it is REALLY painful.

Condolences to his family, friends and PSU family. It's very tragic. We lost a 20 yr old DT on January 6th of complications from a tracheotomy he had done during the season due to an undisclosed respiratory issue. Very devastating for the team and the University as a whole.
I can feel for all of the Portland State people.

I saw your picture of the service being held tonight. RIP to him as well.

Very sad times. Schlatter started off as a walk-on and earned a scholarship his sophomore year. He started 10 games this year and earned defensive player of the week honors against EWU. He was part of the resurgence of PSU football in the community, talking about how kids from his hometown of Canby, just outside of Oregon City, would talk to him about the games this year. Truly a great kid and a tough loss.

Another good read on Schlatter's life, again from the Portland Tribune.

He did battle with both mono and strep throat during the season. He had hoped removing his tonsils would make him feel better this next season.

In the small world we live in...his sister played volleyball (I think) at Montana State. Just shows, we are all Big Sky family 7 degrees seperated. Again, thoughts and prayers to his family.

Sad to see, puts things in proper perspective, football is just a game
