Montana DC Ty Gregorak Headed to Bozeman

Rumor is he had some disagreements with Stitt, but this still seems like an incredibly stupid career move. He makes a lateral move (at best) to a team whose defensive talent has declined markedly over the past 2 or 3 years. Not to mention he probably risks getting shunned by a lot of his coaching connections because of
where he's going.
The only decent reason I can see for this is that his wife (former MSU VB star) could potentially be getting some sort of job at her alma mater, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that. I'm surprised his players didn't lynch him once he told them.

Why would he be shunned by his coaching connections because he is a Bobcat now? I agree, it is an odd move, but the Cats need help on D, and it seemed to me that the griz always played tough, and fired up, on that side of the ball. Kind of fun to read some of the tweets from griz players, you can tell by terms like "Going to the enemy" and "What a step down" that they REALLY take this rivalry seriously.

Don't both sides? I doubt Cat players would be very happy if the situation were reversed.

One of the main reasons we have a new Head Coach, and you are out a DC, is because head coach did NOT feel this way. Sure the players might, but the (in the words of the team captain) "fire and passion was coming from the bottom up, not from the top down" I think the TG brought a LOT of fire and passion to the game, and the players fed off that in those games.

Imagine Prukop or Newell reacting to Cramsey leaving MSU and joining UM as offensive coordinator

Prukop would probably not care....Newell is the heart of that team, and he has made it VERY clear that the team needed a change at top. Cats got that, and now we need to see if it was a good move or not.
One thing I will say is, TG will get a lot more looks from FBS schools if he can turn the Cats D around in a year. (or at least teach our DB's to turn around...)

Perhaps you're not understanding me. Imagine Cramsey made that move at the end of the 2014 season. Shit would of hit the fan.

It's one thing to leave, it's another to go to Bozeman when there probably would have been other options. Also, keep in mind many of Gregorak's connections are Hauck people…

The only thing I can think of is maybe Stitt treated him like a red headed stepchild and it left a sour taste in his mouth. That or he's hoping to eventually leverage Choate's PAC 12 connections.

Lots of Griz people "in the know" are saying he was gonna be gone either way, and that Stitt gave the defensive scheming duties to "someone else" after the PSU game. Could've been Legi or Semoure (who was Stitt's DC at Mines).
Not shocked that he's gone, but blown away he would go to Bozeman. There's a newspaper quote that he hopes to get a chance to be the head guy at UM after Stitt leaves. Not likely anymore. Normally I would wish an ex-Griz coach well, but I hope it tanks his career.
Maybe now we'll get a guy who can coach fundamentals, tackling, and how to beat the goddamn triple option.

I'm not sure what was wrong with those things under Gregorak. The tackling was good this year, and the D did a really good job on Cal Poly.

To be sure, it was his best outing to date, but throughout the season, and during his tenure here there were way too many lapses when we needed no lapses.
Over-pursuit was still a huge issue this year, and our guys just did a very mediocre job of contain early in the year.
Don't get me wrong, I think he is a decent defensive coach, but with the caliber of players we've had while he was here (aside from maybe 2012), our defense hasn't been as lights out as it was in the years before.
I'm sure MSU's defense will improve, but with Semoure coming on and the job he did at special teams and secondary this year, I don't think we'll be in much worse shape without Ty.
Now, should Legi move on, and I hear he probably will, it concerns me.

I can't believe Griz fans can keep going on with this shit. If you want to beat a triple o team you might think about scoring more than 19 fucking points. That shit ain't on the D.
Last year, yeah, they tore us a new asshole.
I'm not upset at all that he is gone to be honest. I have moved from severe dislike for him to now just being completely aloof about him which is a credit to the decent job he has done over the last few years. But I have never moved beyond aloof so It's all in the game playa. Let's see how this all works for you now.

I don't think we're in real trouble, either, but I think the D did a really good job the last couple years given how many bad positions they were put in by inconsistent offense. 2013 wasn't quite as good, but the defense that year was built more for power and UM played a bunch of spread teams (opposite to this year, where they were built more to stop spread but played a lot of power teams

). 2012 wasn't a success, but it wasn't likely to be anyway given the personnel losses to graduation.
I don't think Gregorak is quite as good as Breske, but I do think he's better than Paulson.
