I can tell you Brady Hoke probably won't get the job.

Yeah, but Everett's brother Bill says if Everett only knew, he'd wish that he were in Bill's shoes.

Sources: JMU's Withers slated for second interview Saturday at ECU
James Madison football coach Everett Withers will have a second interview for East Carolina’s vacant job today in Greenville, N.C., sources said Friday morning.
Withers is scheduled to be on campus at ECU today to interview with the school’s athletics director, president and board of directors, a source said.
East Carolina contacted JMU for permission to speak with its second-year coach, a source said.
Withers, 52, a Charlotte, N.C. native, is 18-7 in two seasons at JMU, leading the Dukes to the FCS playoffs both years, but losing both his postseason games.
He signed a five-year deal that pays him $325,000 a season in December 2013.
Before getting to JMU, Withers was a co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State and had been the interim head coach at North Carolina.
ECU fired popular alum Ruffin McNeil, who went 42-34 in six seasons with the Pirates. He led East Carolina to four bowl games. But the Pirates went 5-7 this season, missing a bowl game for the first time since 2011.
Shane Beamer, Virginia Tech’s associate head coach and the son of retiring coach Frank Beamer, also reportedly has interviewed for the job."

Source: ECU expected to hire Duke OC Montgomery as new coach
Duke offensive coordinator Scottie Montgomery is expected to be hired as East Carolina's head coach, a source told FOX Sports Saturday night.
The 37-year-old North Carolina native, a Duke grad, has been the Blue Devils’ offensive coordinator the past two seasons.
ECU fired Ruffin McNeill, an ECU alum, last week. McNeill had won 23 games in the past three years."

Rutgers hires Herman protégé Drew Mehringer as offensive coordinator
Rutgers has hired Houston receivers coach Drew Mehringer as its new offensive coordinator, coach Chris Ash told SI.com on Sunday. Mehringer, 28, is considered one of the country’s sharp young offensive minds and the top protégé of Houston head coach Tom Herman.
“He’s the brightest young coach in America and is more than ready to run his own offense,” Herman said on Sunday.
Mehringer went directly from his role as a graduate assistant coach at Ohio State to the co-offensive coordinator and play caller for James Madison in 2014, where he forged his reputation. In one season, he helped turn Georgia Tech transfer Vad Lee into one of the most dominant quarterbacks in the FCS, setting JMU records in yards (4,288), touchdowns (30) and total offense (4,288). Perhaps the most notable quality of Mehringer’s offense at JMU was the pace, as 37 of JMU’s 70 scoring drives lasted less than two minutes.
Mehringer returned to Houston to work with Herman, his long-time mentor last season. Mehringer played quarterback for Herman at Rice before injuries cut short his career and followed Herman to both Iowa State and Ohio State as a graduate assistant coach. Houston went 12-1 in Herman’s first season as a head coach and will play Florida State in the Peach Bowl. Mehringer brings an expertise in the high-tempo, wide open and quarterback-run heavy system that helped turn Herman into one of the country’s most respected offensive minds. Herman and Ash are close friends, and Herman gave Mehringer a strong recommendation for the job.
“Although we are extremely sad to see Drew go, especially me given our history and relationship, we know that Chris Ash and Rutgers is getting an unbelievable teacher, coach, recruiter and mentor,” Herman said.
Mehringer is viewed as a key hire for Ash, the former defensive coordinator at Ohio State. He needs a strong offensive leader to compliment his defensive expertise. Mehringer earned a strong reputation at Ohio State, James Madison and Houston for a poise and maturity that belied his years. At Houston, he was considered one of the staff’s best recruiters and an expert at social media.
“Drew is a rising star in the profession,” Ash said Sunday. “He is a very intelligent guy with a creative offensive mind. He’s been around explosive offenses and winning programs. He will do a great job caring for and developing our players.”........"

Like someone on the JMU board said, rough week for Withers. First, his replacement as Co-Defensive Coordinator at Ohio State (Chris Ash) gets the Rutgers HC job with a 5 yr, 2 million a year contract. Then his 28 year old former assistant at JMU, goes from a 20k? grad assistant to a 400k? Big 10 OC in three years (75k more than Withers). And to top it off, he lost out to a 37 year old for the ECU HC job that had only 2 years experience as ACC coordinator.

I don't have any real axe to grind with Withers, outside of his need to address the defense. He's done well enough overall for his first two years. He's changed many things & most seem to be for the better. In the spirit of Festivus, I will complain about three things.
#1) Don't expect alums to take kindly to the complete social media absence during the ECU interview process. You can't just pretend like that blackout didn't happen & expect the fans & recruits to respond well to it.
#2) Quit being an a-hole to the DNR reporter. I don't care what caused the beef. I don't care if the reporter is a complete tool. He needs to stop embarrassing my school with that crap.
#3) Oh my god, we need a defense. This means recruiting as well as coaching & scheme adjustment. Probably the only one of these things that truly matters, since it's actually football-related.

In the meantime...no one is looking to steal away any of UD's coaching staff.
Surprise.
