I think Southern Utah deserves consideration for worst performance because of the way in which their point after touchdown aspect was a factor in the game. Their point after touchdown performance resulted in a net 5 point advantage for Sam Houston State in a game Sam Houston State won by 3 points. I guess now I know why they went for two at the end of the game against Portland State.

Eastern Illinois was outmatched. They weren't going to win. Southern Utah had a chance to win and what they did when it was time to try to convert points after touchdowns REALLY hurt them.

Another thing is that they gave up 344 yards rushing even though Sam Houston State played most of the game without it's #1 and #2 running backs on the depth chart. That's not real good for a team that was supposed to have a good defense. Yes I know Sam Houston State has a good running game but their season average going into that game was 264 yards per game rushing. Southern Utah gave up the second highest rushing total to Sam Houston State of anybody Sam Houston State played this season. Only Northwestern State did worse (384 yards). Lamar gave up 194 rushing yards to the Bearkats. Friggin' Houston Baptist gave up 256. That was a horrendous performance by a defense that was supposed to be good; especially (again) considering that Sam Houston State played most of the game without it's top 2 running backs.

OK, but the "worst performance" isn't relative. Getting blown out by UNI is definitely worse than losing close to Sam Houston.
