McNeese clinches Southland crown with win. A Sam Houston win would set up crucial game with UCA on Nov 21st

I think Sam Houston State is the favorite because McNeese has looked very inconsistent on offense. What happened this past Saturday against Abilene Christian does not exactly inspire confidence. But I think McNeese has a chance and am hoping they play their best game.

Shaping up to be a "weather" game. Rainy, windy, temperature in the mid 60s at the start of the game dropping into the lower 60s or upper 50s by the end. That's not cold to you Northern guys but with wind and rain that's going to feel pretty cool to Southern boys.

Normally I am nervous about McNeese playing somebody in weather like that but in this case I don't really mind. Anything that MIGHT slow down Sam Houston State's offense is a plus. It's field turf so footing should not be an issue. Just hope that some how, some way, McNeese ends up with more points on the scoreboard.

Sam Houston State had to play without its second leading rusher, Jalen Overstreet, and its leading receiver, Ladarius Brown, because they were suspended for violations of the student code. So that helped. But McNeese's defense did a great job. Sam Houston State's offense only generated 3 points. The TD came on a pick six on McNeese's first possession. McNeese didn't completely stone them but they made them work for it and managed to make plays to stop drives.

I think on balance McNeese got the better of the breaks. It didn't look like it'd be that way at first as McNeese drove deep into Sam Houston State territory on the opening possession of the game only to throw the pick six. Then on their second possession they drove to around Sam Houston State 30 where they had a 4th down. Quarterback hit a receiver right in the chest with what should've been an easy first down and he dropped it.

But Sam Houston State ended up committing a bunch of defensive penalties to keep McNeese drives alive then late in the game the Bearkats mishandled two consecutive McNeese kickoffs. Each time McNeese squib kicked it and Sam Houston State players couldn't secure the ball. The first time it led to a McNeese touchdown and the second time it pretty much killed whatever chance of coming back Sam Houston State had left.

Oh...the universe is closer to being back in alignment but I forgot that in order to be completely in alignment Montana has to get the Big Sky automatic bid.

Well it would take a fucking miracle for that to happen. I'll settle for winning out and a playoff bid at this point.
