    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 5-7

Best Performance: (#12) Portland St. 35, (#17) Montana 16 - The Vikings run for 339 yards while their defense makes last week's Griz hero, QB Makena Simis, look like he'd never played football before.

Worst Performance: Northern Colorado 21, Northern Arizona 63 - After two good home performances, the Bears go on the road and allow freshman QB Case Cookus to throw for 363 yards and 7 touchdowns on just 31 attempts (253.5 rating).

Most Surprising Result: (#5) Eastern Washington 14, Weber St. 13 - I don't know what's more surprising: that EWU gained just 189 yards of offense, or that they gained 189 yards and won.

Southland

LAM 55-7 HBU

Best Performance: (#8) Sam Houston St. 38, (DII) Texas A&M-Commerce 24 - The Bearkats get past their PTSD over CSU-Pueblo and this time knock off a top-10 DII opponent.

Worst Performance: Houston Baptist 7, Lamar 55 - The Huskies actually did a decent job on Kade Harrington, but they had no success in any other facet.

Most Surprising Result: (#10) McNeese St. 15, Abilene Christian 13 - The Cowboys escape despite a horrible passing day for Daniel Sams.

Missouri Valley

SDK 7-20 UNI
SDKST 39-0 MIZST
INST 24-27 ILST

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 16-3

Best Performance: (#25) Youngstown St. 23, (#23) Western Illinois 21 - The Penguins end their losing skid and finally come up big in a must-win game down the stretch.

Worst Performance: Missouri St. 0, (#14) South Dakota St. 39 - The Bears aren't exactly living up to the MVFC's reputation for defense as they rank dead last in the nation in passing efficiency D.

Most Surprising Result: (#21) Indiana St. 24, (#3) Illinois St. 27 - The Sycs put the defending runners-up on the ropes with 24 straight points, but they forgot to close the deal and allowed 18 unanswered to end the game.

Worst Performance: Tennessee Tech 17, Southeast Missouri St. 38 - Golden Eagles lose by at least 3 touchdowns for the fourth straight week.

Most Surprising Result: (#1) Jacksonville St. 34, (#13) Eastern Kentucky 0 - Only Eastern Illinois realistically stands in the way of the Gamecocks and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Pioneer League

JU 14-31 DAY
BUT 14-35 MARIST
CAMP 39-9 DVDSN
USD 47-16 STET
DRAKE 35-38 MHEAD (3OT)

  • NConf Record: 0-0
    Overall: 18-14

    vs. FCS: 0-0
    Overall: 5-12

Best Performance: Dayton 31, Jacksonville 14 - Barring a crazy collapse, only Morehead State stands in the way of the Flyers' first playoff appearance.

Worst Performance: Davidson 9, Campbell 39 - You'd think a team like Davidson would have nowhere to go up, but their scoring output (12 ppg) is barely half of last year's.

Most Surprising Result: Butler 14, Marist 35 - The Bulldogs are just 4-9 in league play since taking the PFL's first auto-bid two years ago.

Tomorrow: the rest of the playoff conferences.

You know you're having a good year when you rush for 192 yards at 6.4 yards per carry and someone says the other team did a decent job of stopping you. But actually I have to agree; particularly because Harrington's long run was only 17 yards.

Weber should have won that gain but the same winds that held EWU's passing in check pushed three relatively short 2nd half Weber Field Goals right. The conditions were pretty damned bad.

An interesting stat came up in the coaches show last night. It was a low possession game and Eastern had only two drives where they were with the wind. Those were the two drives they scored on.

Best Performance: (#15) Harvard 14, (#22) Dartmouth 13 - It was only their 2nd. single-digit affair in the last two years, but the Crimson overcame 3 turnovers and should now cruise to the Ivy title.
