FINAL: Charleston Southern 33, The Citadel 20; 3-peat.

As you all who keep up with Big South teams noticed...I've been silent all week. Citadel fans and alumni and even in the local media and radio all week have talked shit. Saying they shouldn't have to play at CSU ever. That they're above playing us at all. Making smart ass remarks about our university and location and whatever. And we keep winning. Whatever.

CSU 33 Citadel 20. And if not for a pick 6 before the half and bad red zone play...we may have beaten them 40-13 or worse.

Had some comments to make. And I noticed....Coastal never talked shit to the Citadel. Neither does Wofford. And if CSU ever wants to be a playoff contender like Coastal and Liberty and Wofford (who are far better programs than us) then we can't be concerned about lesser programs like The Citadel.

The Citadel chose to end this series after this season. We've won 3 straight...and tonight's double digit win should've been a blowout.

Enjoy .500 or worse in the SoCon, your confederate flags and your big half empty stadium. We'll ride off into the sunset while asking you to play us again next year....and you guys saying "Hell no sir, may I not have another!"

Coach Chadwell talked a little smack post game too. But enough....we have Monmouth in 2 weeks to start conference play.

CCU didn't have a reason to talk smack, aside from the fact that they wouldn't play at us at home.

Keep in mind, citadel leads the series.

With us? Oh yes...I'm well aware. They teed off on us the first 2 times in 2002 and 2003. That was the final game of the David Dowd era in 2002 and the first game of the Mills era in 2003. A team which had given up at the end of 2002 and one which was in turmoil in 2003s kickoff. And tbise 02/03 Citadle teams were pretty solid. We also were a 36 scholarship team until 2004. Half the roster was walk ons. That's a MAJOR difference. Depth. When I was there...our starting 22 and 2 deep were pretty solid...but a few injuries and we were screwed. My junior year we beat Liberty on the road 25-0 to get to 5-5..lost a QB and LB...and ended the next week with a 50-7 loss to ETSU and an OT loss to Samford. No depth. That was the curse of the late 90s early 00s CSU teams who hovered around .500ish.

But it's a new day. Since being funded like a D1 program (65) and not a D2 (36) the series is 4-3 CSU.

But the series is also over...probably forever....by Citadels choice. Same as they chose not to play Coastal anymore. So there's really no reason to talk about them anymore.

Off topic...when CCU goes Sun Belt...you still gonna come to.this forum? Enjoy trading opinions with you. If so....what are the odds me...or Jesus...can recruit you to adopt CSU as your favorite FCS team since Coastal will be FBS

I was talking about us and The Citadel.
Spoiler: show
And sorry, I've been a Citadel fan since birth. My grandfather operated the concessions at Johnson Hagood and College Park from the 1940s -1980s so we went to all the games. My father and uncles took us to the parades on Friday, and then we'd spend all day downtown before and after the game. I have very fond memories of Saturday afternoons, watching the Corps march in, eating boiled Peanuts in the stands (Timbos. Not those shitty Peanut Man peanuts) the cadets getting a night pass if they won OR getting pissed and forced back to barracks when the lost. But I'll cheer on the Bucs.

Really? When did they beat CCU?? Must have been early or mid 00s.

The Citadel pre-1995 was way different. I can understand your outlook. At least we can be your favorite FCS team on the side haha!!

:ohno: No. I was saying there's no reason for us to talk shit with a team that we've played once. We beat them and that's that.

But, If I read the record right, last nights win tied the series for CSU.

No its 5-4 Citadel. As I said...they finally agreed to play us in 2002/2003. Back to back games....2002 finale after Dowd was fired...and 2003 opener in Mills first game after cleaning house. They put it onnus hard. Citadel was pretty good vs a CSU team that had imploded at the end of 2002. That coaching transition from November 2002-November 2003 and the disaster of 2011 were the only hiccups in CSUs gradual rise from 1995-2015.

But from 2005-present it's 4-3 us. Got full funding of 65 scholarships in 2004. That was the turning point. Late 90s early 2000s CSUs 2 deep was decent and we won some games...but never broke through because a couple injuries or graduations destroyed us...no depth. That's no longer the case.

Whoa....CSU coach invoking some Spurrier attitude post game..."We win more games here (Johnson Hagood) than they do". Then with 3:00 to play tells a player to go get the broom from the locker room to "sweep" the field after the game. Post and Courier reporter asked him if he thought these comments and the broom stunt would hurt the chances of renewing the series. He says it shouldnt, it's a great atmosphere and the game should be played and..."eventually they'll beat us again". Dang.

For the record....his rivalry with the Citadel coaches goes back to North Greenville vs Lenoire Rhyne when they faced each other a few times before. But this game gets the CSU program all the media attention in Charleston. THAT IS why he's trying to provoke it. Kinda brilliant.

That's right. Never known the Citadel to back down from a challenge. But....the Dogs seem to have tucked their tails and said they've had enough. Oh well.

Our city. Period. No debate.

Now...moving on to Big South play. Bigger challenges await....
