Surprisingly, I didn't see this posted yet. Villanova's John Robertson tore his posterior cruciate ligament on Saturday, If he elects surgery, his collegiate career is over. Tough break for a great collegiate QB. Also some good info on his replacement, who looked really good on Saturday:

The information so far indicates he has decided to rehab it with an eye toward coming back at the end of the year rather than have surgery. If that doesn't work he has some options to consider.
1) Have surgery and prepare for a run at the NFL
2) Pursue a red shirt since the injury occurred so early in the year. There is some precedent.
3) Put the football down and start his career on Wall Street or wherever.
What a pleasure it has been to watch him. Selfishly, I hope he is either successful in his rehab or goes redshirt.

Did Robertson lose a year previously to injury that he red-shirted for?
Personally from what I've heard from Nova alums is he's probably played his last game.

Agreed. Thankfully I wasn't drinking anything when I read that NFL comment!
The guy was a great college QB, but everyone went into this year wondering if he would even survive this year. At this point, considering his injury history and the concussions, you have to hope he hangs it up now and just saves his body for what should be the next 60-some years of his life, rather than risk that just to play some meaningless football games down the road. nova's not a threat to win the national title this year, not by a long shot, so hang it up and start healing. There are worse tragedies in life than retiring from football at the age of 21.

Don't quit your day job guys. Nova's last two Payton award winners had long successful careers in the NFL.
Nine out of ten stings I guess.

C'mon, man. You weren't serious about Robertson and the NFL were you? We were trying to enjoy a good laugh at Robertson's expense, not yours.

I was thinking before the injury Robertson was in the same boat as Heineke for ODU was. Wouldn't get drafted, would end in in someone's camp, and would be a long shot to make a roster...

Robertson must be worth about 20 points a game at least, because there is no joy on the Main Line, Penn just beat the Cats stupid, totally dominating them while they did so. The halftime stats were unreal.
No playoffs on the Main Line...

So you actually were serious about Robertson having a chance to have a long successful career in the NFL? So it's official, then, you have absolutely no credibility when you talk about anything nova - blind homerism has taken away your objectivity. I thought it was restricted to basketball but apparently it's impacted you across several sports now.
And yes, I said nova had no shot whatsoever to win the national title just hours before getting thumped by lowly Penn. That's called objectivity. Oh, and 9 out of 10 means little to UD fans - unlike you, we are objective - our program is dead, we realize our team is terrible. Again, objectivity.

Which if that was all that he said that alone would be funny. Robertson was always going to be lucky to get through his college career standing up, which he didn't do. But then, when confronted with objective analysis that called his conjecture into question, he busted out the (and I know you saw this so don't be so coy) "Nova's last two Payton award winners had long successful careers in the NFL" line, comparing Roberston to legit NFL players, neither of whom was a QB either.
So no, he said more than what you think he said. Come on, kalmie, you're better than this.

I don't know, GF. That point by tomcat might have been a tad too nuanced for klammy.

Kalmie is starting to be more of a sophist these days - it's like he's arguing for argument sake.

In Monday's CAA press conference with the media, Villanova Football head coach Andy Talley announced that quarterback John Robertson is out for the season with a short, "no, he is not able to come back" reply on his star's status for the season.
Talley added that Robertson visited renowned surgeon James Andrews in Florida for a second opinion and will now shut down his hopes for a return this season. The focus is that it would "be a good six-month rehab to get him ready for pro football."
The senior quarterback, who won the 2014 Walter Payton Award given to the best player in FCS football, sustained a PCL injury in his right knee during the Wildcats' 8-21 victory over Delaware on September 19th.
In Villanova's three games this season, Robertson has accounted for 660 total yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. It's a terribly sad ending for one of the greatest players in Villanova history - but hopefully he'll be able to get healthy in time for a real shot at the NFL.

Hey, he's allowed to try out. I think they made a movie about another guy in Philly who made an NFL roster against all odds. In fact, that guy's son plays football for the University of Delaware.
Good luck to Robertson.

If he's actually going to try out as a player in the NFL then he should be flagged right now by the NFL's Concussion system and have him checked because he's clearly taken too many shots to the head and is clearly not thinking straight, likely from multiple past concussions. He was/is a great college player, but he's a QB who has a weak arm for college and did most of his damage being a QB who could make things happen with his feet. if that's not a recipe for disaster in the NFL, I don't know what is. No knock on the guy, absolutely fantastic college player, zero chance of making any team in the pros, and that was even before the multiple health issues.

Wow, so you advise him not even to try? Nice mindset.
