How do you view the PFL?

Over at AGS, there are several of us who always belittle the PFL's status as an autobid conference, in various threads. Were they really forced to get an autobid after all? I'm afraid it was so, for the following reasons:
1. Their teams (more often than not, their contenders) cheat or circumvent at the conference's rules regarding financial aid
2. The squads are not talented enough to face the partial and full scholarship teams who are committed to the Road to Frisco
And questions from me arise as well:
1. Why does the PFL exist in the first place? Because of the stupid Dayton Rule?
2. If we need to get rid of the PFL (through online petition or other means), can the NCAA allow teams to play independently (i.e. without a division status) while keeping a division status in other sports? I'm afraid this might be the only solution to fix the corundum of non-scholarship FCS football.

1.I think yes most of the teams in the PFL are in FCS because of the Dayton rule.
2.I don't think a petition to "get rid" of the PFL is a good idea. Most of those schools play D1 football because the NCAA forces them. The petition should be to eliminate the Dayton rule and then the schools can go a different division if they so desire.

More deserving of votes in the polls than the Ivy League.

I'm fine with the PFL getting an automatic bid and it did get a team to the championship game.

and this is an FCS message board
Personally, I think the Dayton rule is a worthwhile discussion. But then again, that is just me.

Most of them aren't FCS caliber schools - non-deserving of an autobid IMO.

PFL = Pioneer Football League.
I agree with OL FU, the Dayton Rule is worth a discussion. The PFL is a a result of the rule.

We also need to talk about how the PFL impacts D1B.

Here's my thoughts on the PFL: It is one of those conferences that in all fairness, really should be D2 but classifies as FCS. Personally I think the PFL should lose their Auto Bid, and the Ivy get the bid.

The Ivies would have a bid if they ask. I personally think the Dayton rule should be rescinded. Most of the PFL if not all would happily (maybe) go back to D3

I don't have an issue with the PFL getting an auto-bid. It doesn't take away a bid from anyone.
Two - it is inappropriate for PFL members (most of them) to play at D3. The PFL schools have the funding to have much, much better facilities (if they want) than 99% of D3 teams - locker rooms, facilities, training staff, etc.
If they want the basketball money/glory, they need to stay DI for all sports.

So you think one of the PFL's would get an at-large if they didn't have the auto?

No, they wouldn't.
The playoffs were expanded to accommodate the PFL. Another at-large was also added.
Now if you want to argue that there are TOO many autobids, and you would like to strip the PFL and take away an at-large bid, and shrink the playoffs, go for it. But to make any real difference, you'd have to get down to 8 auto-bids and 8 at-larges.

I agree I don't have a problem with them receiving an auto bid. and I do think your number two has some justification. But, even then, I am not sure I agree totally. Schools spend money and receive money differently. I do understand that the Dayton's of the world football teams may receive benefits from the basketball program, but the real key in my opinion is athletic scholarships. IF they aren't going to give them, I think they should be able to play DIII if the want.

PFL = Pioneer Football League, or Purple For Life. Bonarae is NOT PFL. Just when certain people see "PFL" they think of her.
