Former Lumberjack and Walter Payton Award winner Archie Amerson is one of 36 candidates for selection on the Football Championship Subdivision ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced.
"It's an enormous honor to just be on the ballot when you think that more than 4.6 million people have played college football," said NFF President & CEO Steven J. Hatchell. "The Hall's requirement of being a First Team All-American creates a much smaller pool of only 1,900 individuals who are even eligible to be on the ballot, so being in today's group of 76 names means an individual is truly among the greatest to ever have played the game, and we are proud to announce their names."

Amerson won the 1996 Walter Payton Award, leading the Lumberjacks to their first I-AA playoff appearance. During his 1996 season, he ran for 2,079 yards on 333 attempts, an average of 6.2 yards per carry, with 25 touchdowns. His 2,079 rushing yards and 6.2 yards per carry average in 1996 are the second best total in I-AA history and his 25 touchdowns are ranked first in NCAA Division I-AA history.

Amerson played in the Canadian Football League for nine years for three teams. He retired after the 2004 season.

To be eligible for the ballot, players must have been named a First Team All-America by a major/national selector as recognized and utilized by the NCAA for their consensus All-America teams; played their last year of intercollegiate football at least ten years prior; played within the last 50 years and cannot be currently playing professional football.

Saw him play several times and the dude was pretty incredible. There were a lot of good RB's in a short span in the BSC when he played.
