Coastal @ NoDak State

This won't be the blowout it was last year, but the Bison are still better and the game is in the Fargo Dome. Coastal has to run the ball with some effectiveness to have a chance. They can do that, since NDSU's run defense isn't as dominant as it once was, but I doubt the Chants can do it quite well enough to pull the upset.

Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:

      • Quarterbacks -- Coastal Carolina

Running Backs - North Dakota St.

        Receivers/TEs - Coastal Carolina

Offensive Line - North Dakota St.

Defensive Line - North Dakota St.

        Linebackers --- North Dakota St.

        Secondary ---- North Dakota St.

        Kicking ------ North Dakota St.

        Punting ------ North Dakota St.

        Return Teams - (push)

        Kickoffs ------ Coastal Carolina

        • Coastal Carolina 21-33 North Dakota St.

Hopefully they will do it well enough to set up the pass.Yes it will be extra tough in the Fargo Dome NDSU is no.2 in pass defense effenciency.

Good review. CCU has a contest every Friday to see who can predict the score. Out of 40+ responses, i'm the only one to pick CCU to lose. 42-21 NDSU

The only question is if CC can stop the run.....plain and simple. If not, this game will be another blowout like last year.

Bison win 38-10

I'm expecting a better game this year. CC's offense is good and will challenge the Bison defense but the Bison defense has made great adjustments during the season when teams have found some success.

I like Coach Moglia. Listening to his press conference and other quotes, he is a no BS kind of guy. I'm sure CC will throw in some different "looks" to see how the Bison respond.

A match up that will be fun to watch is CC's #73 and Kyle Emanuel #53 at DE. Kyle should win the best defensive player award in the FCS this year and #73 is supposedly a very good OT. I assume CC will see if #73 can block him 1 on 1 but if not, they will have to chip or help with a TE or RB.

IMO, in order for CC to win, Ross needs to be patient. Do not force anything if nothing is there. Throw the ball away or take a sack and get up and go on to the next play. The Bison defense will be tough to move the ball on and score on but there are "gaps" in the Tampa-2 that the Bison run. The Bison have given up a few more rushing yards compared to last year and maybe they can try to exploit that. Crossing routes and deep seems between the LBs and safties have been open for other teams this year. But the pass defense has been the strength this year with 2 potential AAs at the safety spots and two very good corners.

If CC can jump out and get a lead and capitalize on Bison mistakes, then they have a very good chance. The crowd (noise) will make it very hard to audible for Ross.

Honestly, I don't think the CC defensive line is going to hold up for 4 quarters against the Bison O-line. The Bison ran for 424 yards last year. I doubt they duplicate that but if they control the TOP with the run game, it will be a long day for CC. CC runs a 4-2-5 defensive scheme and that will be exploited by the Bison coaches if they do not bring down extra defenders in the box. I'm assuming the CC defense is fast but getting pounded on by 300 lb O-lineman will take its toll.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

Wagenmann would win it going away if he played in a conference with refs who knew how to call holding.

Just trying to stay relevant now that the Griz are out.

That's true. Opponents mugged Wagenmann during the mid-to-late part of confererence & totally got away with it. Fortunately the Bobcats never got that memo because they let him rip their O-Line apart.

NoDak State's D-Line might have some issues next year. Emanuel has 28 TFLs, but no other DL has more than 5. Emanuel has 16.5 sacks, but no other player has more than 3.

Maybe, but I doubt it. The two DTs are very good and take up a lot of blockers helping the outside pass rush. All of our interior DTs are coming back next year and all DEs except Emanuel and Hardie. The loss will be in the LBs and both safeties.

The strength of the team will be the offense right away. Best OL is coming back from injury. QB-RB-FB-TEs are coming back also. Vraa might come back with a medical hardship.

The Bison will be in the hunt again next year.

I am. I've got a carbonated soda and Tylenol. But my daughter getting fussy and crying is setting me back.
