Liberty already shut down Vad Lee, so can they shut down Super Vad Lee… a.k.a. John Robertson? The Flames are certainly good enough to make this a game, but their run D just seems too weak for me to trust them.
Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
- Quarterbacks -- Villanova
Running Backs - Villanova
Receivers/TEs - Liberty
Offensive Line - Liberty
Defensive Line - Liberty
Linebackers --- Villanova
Secondary ---- Liberty
Kicking ------ Liberty
Punting ------ Liberty
Return Teams - Villanova
Kickoffs ------ Villanova

If Liberty has the better lines (off & def) it will be a whale of a game. JR might still be the difference though. As good as the QB's are that Liberty has faced, JR is another level.

Baptists 7, Catholics 0, early 1st, bout 2 1/2 minutes in...
LU took opening kick to VU 20 something and took about 6-7 plays to score. After VU held for 3 plays after 1st and goal VU was offsides, gave LU another down from 1/2 yard line and LU QB ran it in.

Baptists 10, Cathlics 0. About 6 min left 1st. LU hold VU to 3 and out. LU drive, 50 yd LU FG.
Listening on VU radio broadcast. VU comentators have said LU fans have "engulfed the stadium". Sounds like LU fans outnumber VU fans despite Lynchburg being about 5.5 hrs away.

Baptists 19, Catholics 14, 1:31 left 1st half.
VU fumble, LU scoop and score for 58 yd TD, left in the 1st half. Failed 2 point conversion.
Think both teams have 2 turnovers in the rain.

That should have been a re-try on the 2-pt. Classic defensive PI. The receiver was wearing the defender like a cape....

Baptists 22, Catholics 14
VU holds LU on opening drive 3rd qtr, then fumbles punt, LU recovers at VU 45 and drives for FG.
Turnovers & special teams the difference so far.

Catholics 29, Baptists 22, 1+ min left 4th.
VU just went on 18 play, 84 yd, 7+ minute drive to likely win it. All 18 plays were on the ground. Robertson ran it in from 1.

Well, if by "couldn't beat Talley" you really mean "beat Talley four times" then you're absolutely correct.
