Big South Week #12 Predictions

Ok, i'm back. I haven't done this since week 7 due to a newborn taking up all of my time.
12noon 5-5 Presbyterian @ 4-6 Gardner Webb
3pm 5-4 Monmouth @ 10-0 Coastal
3:30pm 7-3 Charleston Southern @ 7-3 Liberty
I can't believe i'm doing this, but I'm picking Presbyterian to win. They're the WCU of the Big South. They are coming out of nowhere, taking names and doing well. Gardner-Webb has looked sad the last 2 games. I watched the GW/CCU game and there were mistakes left and right (on both sides of the ball, however).
Coastal and Liberty will win. I'm hoping both of us do very well against our match ups, it'll help in the final selection.

I agree. I was on the PC bandwagon way back when I predicted them to win those two SoCon games. They're getting pretty good! GWU is struggling.
Coastal will cruise past Monmouth.
CSU @ Liberty. My Bucs have 1 win in Lynchburg....ever. The 2000 team pitched a 25-0 shutout up there. The 1998 team was killing the clock for a win...and fumbled allowing LU to force overtime and win it. Havent won since. CSU has FINALLY shaken the post-Vanderbilt hangover...but it wont be enough. CSU will put up a respectable fight but Liberty is too strong. LU by 10-14 pts.

Presbyterian @ Gardner Webb
Monmouth @ Coastal
Charleston Southern @ Liberty
CSU seems to have a little mojo going again and I think they will make this a tight game. I hope you are right on PC, we need this win to close out a turnaround season, lost some momentum with two straight losses.

No arguments here. Agree with all picks. I am a little worried though about the LU VS CS game. Hopefully Liberty are focused on them. A lot of the players are too excited about the CCU game already. Hopefully they do not look pass CS and think that game this weekend will be a walk in the park. Also Congrats on your newborn!

I am going to respectfully disagree with Liberty CSU prediction. I think this is going to be a close game. CSU will be looking to return the favor of making it tough for Liberty to go to playoffs. Running up score to try and impress someone last year hasn't been forgotten.

No one ran up the score on CSU last year. When one team holds the ball for 40 minutes and the other gets flagged for 14 penalties while turning the ball over 4 times, the score is going to get ugly. And I mean Ladson ugly.

Yeah I was there. LU didnt run it up. They were better than CSU and CSU turned it over a lot. LU just ran its offense. Cant tell a kid, even a 3rd stringer, to not play to score when on the field.
Hopefully we can go up there and pull the upset.

Perhaps I am just old school. I was at the game as well. Liberty was the better team. We were down to 2nd stringers or guys playing hurt at key positions. However, where I come from, one does not continue throwing deep when ahead by three touchdowns late in a game. Most coaches would, with the game clearly in hand, sub early and run the ball and the clock. My running the score up comment was from that point of view. Agree to disagree.

I learned that the hard way while I was at UOP (though I wasn't on the travel squad). Our trip to Nebraska was ugly, and we lost 70-21. That was their sixth stringers scoring on our ones. SMH....

It works both ways, dude. If it's the 4th quarter, you're down by 40 and you just want the game to end, don't keep blitzing the freaking house on 3rd down. You are forcing the offense to throw it over the top.

Yeah. Im also a South Carolina fan and Kentucky scored 21 points in the final 7minutes. And Charleston Southerns 2005 Big South champ team won it by scoring 14 in 1:45 to force OT vs Coastal.
No lead is truly safe unless its up over 35 in the 4th.

I agree wit Steve Spurrier. Backups work their butts off. When they finally get to play its not fair to tell them not to run the offense. Doesnt mean throw bombs every play. But if the D blitzes and the backups are coached to hot route to a deep route...let em play.

Congrats to Chuck South last night. Yall sued like it was a championship game and wanted it more. When I got to the game and saw our starting QB on crutches. I knew that is was going to be a long night. Looks like we must beast coastal next weekend. I have faith but it's a bit unlikely after the way our back up QB played. Hoping for a speedy recovery for our starting Qb(Woodrum) so he can play next weekend. But I doubt it. Again congrats to Chuck South

I too was at the game. Of course there was one trophy at the time and Nobody expects to award 2 in a season so why would it say so? Go back and look at the records. Both schools were 3-1 after that game. Check the Big South website, Coastal and CSU share the conference championship for 2005. Why can't CSU fans admit this? This comes up every year. They remember a come from behind win but not the fact that even at the game the announcer calls out the Co championship. I'm not trying to diminish the win, but it wasn't an outright conference title win. Even the CSU scoreboard got it right.
